Standing in the kitchen of her parent’s house as she waited for a pot of rice to finish cooking, Lilianna turned to social media for entertainment. With her hip kinked against the kitchen island, cell phone clasped between her slim fingers, she peeked at her Facebook timeline. She watched a video posted by a friend and liked a few status updates, but it wasn’t long before she ran out of new content to view. Driven to the brink of boredom, knowing she had to watch over the pot lest the rice burn, Lilianna ignored her urge to go into the living room and watch TV. Instead, she started scrolling through her friends pages for new people to follow. More friends, meant more content, right?
Purely going in alphabetical order, she opened her father’s page and noticed a new photo post that tagged both him and her mother in a gorgeous couple portrait. The post had been put up by an older family friend named Adrian, whom she realized she wasn’t friends with yet. She clicked on the hyperlink to his profile and did a little browsing. He seemed to post a lot of high quality photos, landscapes and portraits mostly. The kind one could only take with a really expensive, professional camera. Lilianna stopped scrolling when she reached an awesome black and white photo of a landmark she’d always wanted to visit. She liked the photo then scrolled back up to hit the friend request button, not thinking too much of it as she turned her attention back to her cooking task for a moment, pulling up the lid and stirring the rice.
