Favorites? Lists? Bookmarked? Reading lists? Comments?

Those reading my stories have the option at the end of adding the story to Favorites, commenting, voting, following me or Bookmarking the story. There is no option to List or Reading List a story. (I think this means the same thing as Bookmark; but why have two terms? Especially because Bookmark usually means 'Put the story up on my bookmark bar at the top of the page.') On my Home Page I am told that someone favorited me or my story, or commented. That's it. If I go to my 'Works' I can count the numbers. Nowhere does it say if someone 'bookmarked' or 'listed' my story. (Also, why is the bookmark/list tag at the top of the page near the title. Which brings up what must be a funny frequent scenario: Joe or Jane Doe is at work starting to read my story when the boss shows up behind their cube. A quick pop of the Bookmark symbol allows J or J to zip back to their mental (or actual) fap as soon as the boss is absent. Gosh, people working at home must have all sorts of games they play in terms of hiding their 'one hand work' from their paid job.

I too find this feature confusing, and thus less valuable than I imagine it was designed to be.

'Favorite' adds the story to the pre-defined list 'Favorite Stories', the author is notified of this.

'Bookmark' gives you the option to add the story to an existing, or newly created, list. Unless you add the story to the 'Favorite Stories' list the author is not notified.

It works for me.

Stories that I really like are given 5 stars and marked as Favorite that puts them in the 'Favorite Stories' list.
Stories that I like are given 4 stars and saved in a list named 'Good'.
Stories that I intend to read are in a list named 'Read Later'.

You're notified of those other lists as well. If you ever see the same story pop up multiple times back-to-back from the same person in your feed, that's what happened. I think it even pings you when someone adds you to a private list nobody else can view. The feed doesn't distinguish between favorites and lists. It just pings them all as favorites.

Thanks for the clarification.

I read a lot, and comment a lot. If a story is more than five pages long I bookmark it to read later, or, if I like the story, and want to be reminded to look for a sequel, I bookmark it. That is my reading list, to be read later.

Do you every mark something a 'Favorite', or is that reserved for stuff you thought was sterling and would revisit again and again?

My favorites is a totally different list. I have been around since 2008, so as you would imagine, there are quite a few. I will sometimes go back through some of the older ones and make a comment so as to introduce it to a new audience in the feedback thread.

Got it, but functionally, how is Favorites different from Bookmark/list?

Have you clicked "Bookmark" to see what it does?

The Bookmarks control brings up a form where you can choose which of your lists to add the story to. One of those lists IS the Favorites. So the functional difference is that you can Bookmark a story onto your Favorites but you can also bookmark it onto other lists you have, too.

Roand and around and around we go.

I have a question about Bookmark in a thread.

I click the 'ribbon' Bookmark icon on a comment post and it changes to white but I can't find where to access Bookmarks.

Does anyone know how?
