I'm a relatively new author with only a handful of stories up (so my sample size here is small)

I find it odd that my two favorite stories (in terms of story-telling and characters) are my two lowest rated ones, and yet the one I like the least is almost my highest scoring.

Not complaining, I am very appreciative of the vast amounts of positive feedback I get, I just find it odd. I get that the majority of the readers are probably just looking for something to get off to and don't care about finer details. I understand the reasons, I just find it amusing, and maybe an interesting insight into the minds of both myself and the audience.

End Rant.

You can go mad obsessing on fickle readers, contentious categories. and weird votes. Get past the numbers. Write for fun.

You're the writer, they're readers. Two different species entirely, with completely different quality criteria. If you try to figure it out you'll go insane. Just write what you want to write. Over time, you'll find more consistency :).

You've gotten good scores so far. Note that there is a large readership here and the site is an open, "Hello World" one where anybody can pop in and vote. There are a lot of views here for many if not most stories (incest is a popular category), but the voting can be very unpredictable.
