Favorite Soundtrack?

Because lyrics mess up my mental process when I'm writing, I prefer instrumentals, and movie soundtracks are perfect. Some of them are so moving.

A few of my favorites are:

Gladiator
Sense and Sensibility
Shakespeare in Love

Got any suggestions for more I should add to my list?

Also, on a tangent topic, is anyone else slightly annoyed at the obviousness with which Hollywood is pumping their movies with great songs just so they'll have a great (non-instrumental) soundtrack? I mean, look at What Women Want. What was the point of having Frank Sinatra's song in there??? (Or Mel's whole dance schtick? That was cute and well-performed, but what did that have to do with the plot?) I think it was just to inject some old-fashioned stuff into the compendium of well-known favorites. What are your thoughts, Hobson?

The Mission

Holy yes! I watch that movie just for the music!

Others would be:

Tombstone
Far and Away
Braveheart (makes me cry, *sneef*)

Forest Gump

American Gaffitti

Grease

For the Boys

All of the above

Comshaw

Regarding your second question, there is a distinct move to pack soundtracks with popular songs. It saves a boatload of money in production.

Conan the Barbarian + Destroyer
Star Wars (any of them)
Indiana Jones (again, any of them)
Willow

hell, anything by John Williams will never dissapoint

I like Willow too, but I maintain that the theme is a rip off of Tchaikowsky's Piano Concerto No. 1

i THOUGHT that sounded familiar.. still good, though!

For some reason, the Star Wars and Indiana Jones soundtracks are almost cliche for me now.

And I wouldn't necessarily call it a rip off. Somewhere in Time's main theme is based on a rhapsody from Paginini (sp?). Of course, John Barry acknowledged Paginini's work.

Last of the Mohicans -- I've heard that's good from another friend.

Thanks! Any more suggestions?

I love songs with lyrics, but...

The track for Superman really gets my blood pumping, and the songs on Rob Roy were simply amazing...

Last of the Mohicans is excellent, as is Tombstone.

I also like the soundtrack to The Crow.

All of these have lyrics, which probably won't help you out but my list is:

Grease
Mortal Kombat
The Crow
Lion King
Little Mermaid
Aladdin

What???

that's b/c you hear them all the time, i bet..

though i'll never get tired of: Battle of Hoth, Imperial March (including the Metallica version :D), and Duel of Fates..

damn, Blackbich.. from rockabilly to Disney to heavy metal/industrial..

loved the Mortal Kombat cd, btw..

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has a pretty good score.

As for ones with Lyrics, Spawn was pretty good. Bad movie but love that elctro-rock.

I agree... Have it on CD and Cassette...

Even tho I was upset at the movie.... but I like the Titanic Soundtrack.. all except that damn Celine Dion song that was played OVER AND OVER AND OVER

The Matrix soundtrack is also another good one that has songs with lyrics.. loved the Dragula remix and Rammstein is always good when you're pissed..

I don't know. Theres something about loud, angry German shouting that makes me uneasy.

Agree with all, Last of the Mohican was awesome. I also adore The Piano, but makes sense cause the movie was great. Both of them are instimental by the way.

Its just that sometimes after listening to Rammstein I'm not sure if I want to dance or invade Poland ;)

EARTH, WIND, & FIRE

"That's The Way Of The World"

"The Firm"
"The Wall"
"The Sting"
"The Magical Mystery Tour"
