I was watching my fav movie tonight,
David Lynch's Dune with Kyle MacLachlan and Patrick Stewart.
It doesn't do the book justice as far as the story goes,
but I think it captured the dark tone of Frank Herbert's
best known series very well.
I was just curious what everyone else's favorites were and why.

I think one of my all-time favorites is still- "Nightmare Before Christmas" For the elegant visuals, funny little plot twists, Jack Skellington's elegance, and Sally's beauty- and Danny Elfman's exquisite music.

Another one is Jim Jarmusche's "Dead Man" with Neil Young's music, an incredible cast (Iggy Pop, Crispin Glover) and Johnny Depp doing the Dying Swan act. And black ands white photography that is so vivid- I remembered the film in color, the first time I saw it.

Ha!

I loved "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Very quirky and fun. Sorry to say I haven't seen "Dead Man" or "American Taboo".
Another that has become a fav is "Signs". I'm not religious, but the tin foil hats were too hilarious.

I'm very picky and the littlest things ruin a movie for me. Yet I can watch "Dude, where's my car?".Don't ask me, my shrink has a restraining order out :cathappy:

Resident Evil~ Great zombie flick and two good looking women on screen

Ghost Ship~ Ghost stories are a fav of mine

Basic~ Murder mysteries are always good

Long Kiss Goodnight~ Samuel Jackson gets his ass kicked through the entire movie and is still a bad-ass

Sleepy Hollow~ Saw is three times in the theater and watch it monthly

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade~ Sean Connery and Harrison Ford, what else?

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon~ The love scene in the cave while it shows nothing stirs a few things. Oh and it's a kung fu movie without horrible voice overs. I prefer the original Mandirin (forgive my spelling) track with english subtitles.

Clue~ If I need to explain...

That is all I can think of now, my movie collection is in the 200's but most of them are just movies I like, there are few favorites.

Dracula with Keanu Reeves and Gary Oldman isn't that good. Most of the collection is entertaining but only an honorable mention. Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail shouldn't even need to be listed, just understood.

my all time favorite movie will probably shock a bunch of people....

Always with Richard Dreyfuss John Goodman and Holly Hunter.....

it seems so real to life somehow.... even if it is a ghost story.....

Flash Gordon.

Yup, loved it as a child and still love it now. "Flash, I love you but we only have half a second to save the earth!" hee hee hee.

Never Been Kissed.

Adore the soundrtrack, love the humour, it just seems to speak to me. *grins* And that kiss-mmmmmm. (Plus the end scenes with Drew Barrymore never fail to get hubby horny)

Jungle book.

well anything disney really, but jungle book has been a long standing favourite, I still know all the song lyrics!

oh and there are others, Patch addams, The Green Mile, City of Angels,Any of the herbie movies, Half a sixpence, any muppet movie...

Yeah, I know. My list of films says alot about me :D

On the one hand I'm a geek...

(Lord of the Rings & Star Wars movies)

...on the other I'm a classic oriented respectable critic

(Casablanca *my all time fav*)

...and finally I'm a cliche frat boy...

(I LOVE Animal House)

My favourite 80's movie: Wall Street.
My favourite 90's movie: The Usual Suspects.
My favourite 00's movie (sofar): Sin City.

Oh! I forgot to put "Pitch Black" on my list, too! Loved it!

Memento, without a doubt.
The Butterfly Effect
The Usual Suspects.

I like films that make you think.

Also Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Goldeneye.

The Earl

~

Ooo...and I can't forget "Tombstone"
with Val Kilmer & Kurt Russell
of course all the LOTR movies rock...
watching "Return of the King" right now.
Hmmm...feel as if I should mention
"The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe"
seeing as C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien
were close friends and had a similar
philosophy though they focused it
on different age groups.

Movies that I can (and do) watch over and over:

For the romance:
Moulin Rouge
Strictly Ballroom
Room With a View
When Night is Falling

For the drama
Magnolia
Leaving Normal
Dangerous Liasons

For the thrills and chills:

Dusk til Dawn
Ravenous
Ginger Snaps

For the laughs:
Anything by Terry Gilliam (Brazil, Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Time Bandits)
The Incredibles

Muriel's Wedding

The one movie that I am a bit embarassed to admit to:

Deuce Bigelow, Male Gigelow (brings out the 10 year old boy in anybody)
