Ok- I've been cleaning and organizng my classroom library and came across so many books that I loved when I was little, so I want to ask- what were your favorite books as a child? Or what are your children's favorite books now? Here were mine:

"Green Eggs and Ham", "There's a Wocket in My Pocket"," One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" (hence my signature), "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas"- all by Dr. Seuss

"More Spagetti, I Say!"

Anything by Shel Silverstein

"Chicken Soup With Rice" and "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak
"The Phantom Tollbooth"

plus a ton of others- I was a huge geek - still am... :)

I had this big hardcover edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales (the Americanized "happy ending" versions, of course!) that I would sit around and read again and again.

Sometimes, I still miss that book...

I can't remember back that far, but when I was a pre-teen I liked the Hardy Boys (the original series) and Starship Troopers.

STG

When i was past "Green Eggs and Ham"...

The Wind In the Willows.

Anne of Green Gables.

Every single Nancy Drew book ever written.

We Have Always Lived In The Castle.

Green Mansions.

Except For Me and Thee.

Fairy Tales, too. I have a set of the Colors Fairy Tale books that my grandfather gave me just before he died, The Red Fairy Book, the Blue Fairy Book, The Green Fairy book... on and on.

I still have the first SciFi book i ever read, A Wrinkle In Time, by M. L'Engle.

... and a million others. I've *always* been a bookworm. Still am. And i still have a lot of my books from when i was young, too. I've kept books for my kids, too, for later, when they're grown-up and want to have them again.

There are so many to choose from, but I'd have to say Where the Wild Things Are--I so wanted to be Max in that wolf suit...............
let the wild rumpus begin!

When I was about 11, I lived in England and my favorite book was, Dora at Follyfoot farm.

I still have it as a matter of fact.

Ooh, ooh! I remember now - I liked that book where the little boy chased the tiger around the tree. Something to do with tiger stripes, the boy loosing his pants and pancakes?

STG

I loved the Little House on the Prairie series. I got the whole box set for my birthday, and read them all in two months, most of them I reread for years.

Ditto.

Another book I always loved was a big hardcover edition of "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" that I used to read in grade school.

One day, I was looking through a stack of old books at a local bookstore... and there it was. The same edition, and in excellent condition.

One of the best $1 purchases I've ever made!

My favorites were all the books in the OZ series. And the Bobbsey Twins. When I got a little older, my favorite was The Secret Garden.

Well the Hobbit was one of my fav books when i was younger.

Another favorite series was the Chronicles of Narnia.

It's been so long and I've read so many books that i've loved that's kinda of hard to just pick a few favs...

but here's what i've got in my head,
the sneetchs I think it was by Dr. Seuss about the funny looking green things with stars on thier bellys'

the Curious George books

A Wrinkle in Time

The Wind in the Willows

The Chronicles of Narnia

the Tolkien books, the R.E. howard books and to many more to list.

Dr Suess books
Black Beauty
Grimms Fairy Tales
Hans Christian Anderson
(lol then i grew up and graduated from Little Red Riding Hood to Cujo by Stephen King :) )

Dirty Feet, by Steven Kroll. Illustrated by Toni Hormann.

From toddlerhood through most all of elementary school this was my favorite book. Any time my sister and I would spend the night at my grandmother's house, we always begged her to read it.

After my grandmother passed on last Thanksgiving, I "inherited" a collection of books, including Dirty Feet, since I was the oldest grandchild.

Ooh! I loved those. My favorite one was "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". I read it in school and then a few weeks later, it was on TV. I lost myself in those books. I hope to introduce them to my children when they get a little older.

Lots of great books listed here.

My all time favorite was the OZ series - I read them all - all the Baum books and the ones by others as well.

The Dr. Doolittle books were right up there as well.

The Mushroom Planet books...

There was a series about a boy who invented things and solved "crimes" - I can't remember the name - anyone know what I'm talking about? There were cryptography codes in the back of the books.

And, of course... Wrinkle in Time... *smile*

Are you talking about Encyclopedia Brown? The answers to all the things he solved were at the end of the book. I LOVED those books- my family used to called me that b/c I thought I knew everything- lol.

Oh and I loved all the Beverly Cleary books, Chronicles of Narnia- Judy Blume too...

The Baby Sitters Club

Anything By R.L.Stine

Where the wild things Are

Anything by Dr. Seus

Phantom of the Opera

and Black Beauty

Another Narnia fan here.

Also loved to Kill a Mockingbird. most Roahl Dahl books (can't remember how to spell his name)

And Garfield comics :)

I think it's Roald Dahl. Danny, the Champion of the World was a great book by him, aside from Willy Wonka and all the other more popular ones...
