Harvey Keitel's never been less than great in a movie. He's made bad films, but he's always good. Ditto John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman. Among the younger guys, John Cusack, Eric Stoltz, and Ed Norton are the same way.

Dead guys? Orson Welles was fascinatingly unpredictable..sometimes great, sometimes just awful. James Stewart and Spencer Tracy were great at the "average Joe" thing, though in different ways.
