I've noticed that readers will Favorite your story, then unFav it the same day evidenced by my story no longer appearing in their Fav list. I assume they've used the Fav button to highlight the story and if it doesn't meet their expectations they'll simply unFav it. It is just me? Do I leave a trial of broken orgasms? Or does this happen to other writers?

It is not about you. It is because of the difference in the update period between various parts of the website. The notification you get in your author's panel is basically instant, while other pages take time, sometimes up to 24 hours to update. That is likely why you got the notification but the story doesn't appear in the fav list of that member.

It's happened to me, especially on a new story. I'll get a lot of favorites and then some will drop them.

It happens to me. Same with the Follow. I've come to accept there is a slight "churn" to Favorites and Follows, and that only when they have been there for a bit are they truly genuine.

I also wonder if some readers use it a non-anonymous vote. Its like saying "I (X) loved your story".

I wondered the same thing. I know one reader favorites a story and always drops it a few days later.

A lot of times I misclick while on mobile, and I suspect I'm not the only one to do so.

That may happen, but not in any cases I've observed.

I was favorited by the same person three days running. I just assumed they were using it as a bookmark for my latest story since they had no authors favorited when I checked their page.
That fits the pattern, thanks. Can't expect a reader to notice the bookmark icon, right?

In their defence, it's a pity the bookmark isn't available on every page instead of the end one... AFAIK... I just checked a single story and that was the case.

I think that's what some readers do, especially since they've changed the way you can mark a story. It's like saying, 'Nice Story,' without actually listing as a favorite.

Before one of the more recent upgrades, there wasn't a "bookmark" feature at all. So there'll be be many readers who still use faves as a bookmark, to read later.

It's one of the reasons I don't think faves are especially meaningful, unless the list your story is on is a short one - then I reckon it's meaningful, by looking at the company your story keeps.

I've never really paid that close attention to it, honestly.

But yeah, I'd just assume it's a Bookmark; someone saved it to read, unsaved when finished.

Can you imagine how crushing it would be if we got notified when someone UnFavs us?! OMG :oops:😭

I'd honestly probably never notice.

I love when I get new followers, don't get me wrong. Of course I do. And I appreciate it.

I just never really obsess over the numbers. I've probably lost followers I'm sure, but would never know it because I don't keep tabs on how many follow me.

People favorite stories? Goodness, what will they think of next? Just kidding! I've never checked to see if anyone's favorite of my story has been listed in their list of favorites. I have seen the same story favored by the same person a few days apart. I can only assume they favored it, unfavorited it and then favored it again.

I remember someone saying the Bookmark feature just shows up as a Favorite notice.

So perhaps they bookmarked it to read later, finished it, then actually added it to Favorites.

Just my theory anyway.

This isn't going to feed Cat the cat or buy Donnie his next round of clothing, nor will it put bread on the table. I guess I should get back to writing. Those blogs and scripts for podcasts aren't going to get written by themselves or by the people who get credit for them, so I should get busy.
