I know Father's day is only a few days off...but I, for one, have neglected the good things my dad gave me for far too long. So this thread is dedicated to him, and all the other dad's out there and the positive influence they had on their kids lives.

Notice, I said POSITIVE

Too often, work kept him absent
he had known selling papers on corners
at 12, to bring home bread for his sister
and mother, having ousted his philandering father

he knew hunger and hard work
ROTC saw him through college
so he sailed to Korea while my brother was being born
on a Naval base, waiting for so many

Dr. Spock was an alien
he came from German discipline,
get the job done or get out
his harshness was a hand me down

but I remember him and I
in the basement, on my bike
learning the basics in 15 feet
without asphalt to fall on

and throwing the ball if the front
yard, grass mowed and raked
(work before play), he'd say
"Are your chores done?"

He had the intent, but not the know how
to help me see how to apply myself
only with age did I understand
how much he'd overcome

Love and miss you Dad

good poem!

My father has passed but the sentiment is always there, my son praises me ... so I concider that a good thing and the adoption of two boys and raised three neices when their mother passed, I feel like father's day is almost as good as christmas <grin but on a sadder note... opposite of positive is the reality to some on father's day too!

A Blizzard Forever
by My Erotic Tail ©

Blizzard beats
at a window pane
watching snow
build up
around the edges
lack of
anything better to do

little nose
pressed
against the glass
watching the cold
thinking back
of chilly days
can't play
wondering
why
there are
cold ways

Child knows
against the cold
his mind's
windows of pain
will always be
a blizzard
because
his parents fled

will he be
forever
in a blizzard?

Wrap my arms
around him
wipe icicle tears
he knows love
and smiles at me
but doesn't understand
not having
his mommy
and daddy

neither do I~

so aunt and uncle
are now mom and dad
but one day
he'll go into the world
storming
searching
blizzards
wanting answers

why?

for I can't answer
the chilling question
or understand
cold hearts
two nose's
against the glass
when will
this blizzard pass?

we buried Daddy with sunflowers
and all the bad memories, we were
too selfish to shed to good ones

fishing in mountains streams for trout
gigging for frogs in the moonlight
running down the mountain, after
he forced us from the car
so he and mama could make out

his version of hide and seek
included a belt for the first one
who found him, and that laugh
when none of us wanted to look

then there were trips to Florida
he turned us loose with five dollars each
I always believed he hoped someone
would take us, but no one ever did

he was a maniac and I miss him

sorry, thats the best I could do, lol
