Fate

n.

The supposed force, principle, or power that predetermines events.

des·ti·ny

n. pl. des·ti·nies

The inevitable or necessary fate to which a particular person or thing is destined; one's lot.
A predetermined course of events considered as something beyond human power or control: “Marriage and hanging go by destiny” (Robert Burton).
The power or agency thought to predetermine events: Destiny brought them together.

It seems that destiny is changeable (is that a word?) and fate isn't? or are they the same thing? Do you believe that the people who are in your life right now are there for a reason? Do you think that there is 'something' guiding you to what you need to learn? Do you hear it? Do you follow it?

I went into a store this afternoon, after work. I've been into this place only once before. I browsed a little and then turned around and right in front of me was a 'self-help' type book that addressed the questions that have been weighing on my heart for a while now.

Fate or Destiny? Neither?

I believe things like that happen for a reason, but I don't believe that our paths are predetermined. I think that we're given choices... the book was put in front of you, but you choose to purchase it or not. Either choice would have been the right one.

den·si·ty Pronunciation Key (dns-t)
n. pl. den·si·ties
1)The quality or condition of being dense.

2)The quantity of something per unit measure, especially per unit length, area, or volume.

3)The mass per unit volume of a substance under specified conditions of pressure and temperature.

4) Stupidity or dulness.

Things happen we can't explain....a dream of fighter jets and flames on 9/10/01....a book we see in a store.

Some things are outside our ability to "sense", but real....others are buzzard luck....others mean nothing.

The Great Mystery.

OOOoh love philosophical topics...all I will get into is that yes people, events, places, things are in your life for a reason it is up to you to determine that reason. Some are fleeting moments that you may not be able to understand the meaning behind that coming together until years later.

If you pay attention to everything that goes on in a day. The sounds, the smells/aromas, the views you have, the people, the places, the textures, the tastes...one day...write it down...you'll be amazed at what you've never really seen, touched, felt, tasted, listened to. The more you do this the more you learn from what goes on in your life...you will see patterns and ways to manipulate them for your benefit and those around you.

Fate or destiny? I will let someone else take that one but I do believe that everything happens for a reason...what we do to uncover that reason and then what we do with our discovery is often sorely lacking.

I believe in fate, but I also believe that we make a choice on whether to act on what fate offers us.

(pssst, Caly... your pm box is full!)

From the beginning or from a different time?

Sounds like just a lucky shopping day to me. :)

You did buy the book, right?

...the leaf in the forest

it is the same with life. For me, I believe, that there is nothing PREdestined. Not as far as no-matter-what-this-is-the-only-way, kind of thing. I do believe, that people and events evolve in our lives, by God, in order for something else to happen. If "A" is not followed by "B", immeadiately, then "B" will come back around somewhere else in life. I realize my words sound contradictory, but maybe I am not explaining myself well. We have choices and we make them. But my belief is that we are here for a purpose. That we all have the one "thing" to complete. So, that the next chain of event may be completed. That task could be as trivial as talking long enough to the check out girl that I prevented the woman behind me from being killed by a drunk driver, a mile from her home. That was my "job".... Who knows? ... I do know this, however, that I'm damn sure asking every question, I have ever had, about life, when I die!!!!! I think I've been pretty patient about it all.

SAYTUR

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything...you believe what feels right
I happen to believe we are all connected, but the bonds vary from one soul to the next...some people have a "sense" of each other, an unexplainable intangible attachment, from the moment they stumble across each other

Incidentally I don't believe in fate

I think it's something like that. We have freedom of choice, & are subject to cause & effect. I don't think everything happens for a reason, but I believe everyone happens for a reason, & that people are in your life for some reason or other, maybe to help you out, maybe just to prepare you for the next challenge.

I could have learned all this from watching "Quantum Leap!", would have been easier.
