I've never been to a strip club, but I'm curious - are they all skinny like you see in the movies, like Darryl Hannah in Dancing at the Blue Iguana? I'd think that, since different people like different body types, it'd be logical for strippers to be of all sizes and shapes. But then I think about how much body confidence it would take for most girls to take their clothes off to music, and that most girls just wouldn't be able to do it. I'd like to be a stripper, but I'm not going to bother trying if I'm going to get laughed at by club owners! I'm not that fat, but I'm not very skinny. I'm big, but it's big muscles (I'm a fighter) covered by fat. Let's just say: I don't look like Darryl Hannah!

Strip bars in Canada seem to have only the thin, yet somehow "voluptuous" types. Actually, that's bullshit. There are skin-and-bones bodies, with fake boobs on them. I've never seen a larger stripper here, but I see shows on TV that show a lot of American strippers are larger than thin, and they're pretty girls just the same. I think that, for the most part, while bar owners might want to cater to the tastes of all of their clients, the MAJORITY of clients don't want to see larger girls get naked. And so club owners don't hire larger girls. They're appealing to the majority.

And you're right.. it is difficult to stand up and get naked. I've danced once, a long time ago, though not down to nothing. Down to bra and undees. I was friends with the bar owner and a couple of the girls pulled me up on stage (they knew my bf and his friends were in the crowd), and we danced. It was fun and exhilirating. But of course, there were the mean folk who can't keep their mouths shut. *shrug* Would I do it again? I'd like to lose a bit of weight before I considered it (I've gained a bunch since I danced), but yeah, even as a larger girl, I'd love to dance again if there was a market for it.

Well you may start out on the hefty side if you started dancing, but I gaurantee you'd lose weight in the process. The activity along with the late hours will "strip" off excess pounds.

Imo, a girl needs a ~~BELLY~~, and by belly I mean something that's soft and not small enough to put my hands around . No ribs showing is +++, that's just icky (most of the time!). it'll depend alot on what kind of a club you're wanting to dance for. If you're going for a mainstream, franchised club then you're pretty much going to find walking variations of Barbie Dolls. Not exactly Kate Moss but generally speaking they'll be thin with big boobs. In " local" clubs and smaller scale venues you'll find a whole smorgasbord of shapes and sizes. Obese strippers are almost always a No go regardless of the club but there are plenty of girls dancing who have a bit of meat on their bones and there is also a serious trned toward athletic bodies which are by nature more muscled.

My wife was a stripper she always says that she would Rather be the ugliest girl in a club full of pretty girls than just another one of the pretty girls. Not saying that your ugly or anything just saying that differences are good. For alot of guys someone more average is easier to identify with and talk to, they feel comfortable and like you could actually be interested in fucking them. All of that is good for the paycheck. But more than that is enthusiasm If they think you like what you're doing they be all over you.

Go to some clubs check them out there not that scary and that way you can see which one you like. If you still aren't sure send me some naked pics and I'll let you know what I think . I love solid women, they are way more likely to get my money.

I can understand why you'd enjoy it, but by the same token, there would be guys in the audience that are uncouth and crass that would make it a less than totally thrilling experience. Its unfortunate, but that is the price one pays for performing in front of an audience. Some people will appreciate your performance, others won't.

If you want to strip just for the fun of it, and not for the profit, do it for your guy, or perhaps for a select group of friends. If your guy is like me, he'll appreciate it believe me.

But we have plenty of girls that dance who are not the least bit skinny...I am talking beautiful women at least 9/10 with curves..I have seen girls who are about a size 16 gettin up there and doing their thing. To me a real woman is more attractive than the Barbie dolls the media tries to sell us any day of the week..

(and yes..I danced for almost 2 years..5 feet tall, size 7/8, not the least bit SKINNY)

Personally, I like going to a club where there is a variety of natural women there. Generally that means I'm going to see a bunch of girls that are small but not anorexic, and their breasts are proportionate. I have my favorite clubs in that regard.

My preference is to go to a club mostly to get ideas and have fun with the girls, which is another factor in my favorite clubs -- the girls just LOVE having another female in the audience. I tend to get the most attention, and we have a blast.

Honestly, where I have been, I have never seen a market for 'larger' girls like myself. And that's okay. I wouldn't feel sure enough of myself to be able to get up in front of leering, sometimes drunk, men anyways.

In my life before now,I used to cocktail waitress in an upscale strip club. I was hired because I had a certain "look" (mostly that I literally look like the girl next door and looked cute in a cheerleader skirt and ponytail or pigtails) and when I was hired it was explained to me that they tried to keep a variety of cocktail waitresses and dancers for their variety of customers. I will tell you honestly though, that although we did have some much heavier cocktail waitresses, the majority of the dancers were very slim and athletic, mostly because of the long hours. I don't know if that helps answer your question at all, but that was my experience with it.

The thing is, I'm learning stripping at a dance school in a city near here - and I KNOW I like it! I like doing it in a room full of women, and when we have our performances for the school (who, apart from us, are all jazz/ballroom/hiphop dancers), it's the biggest buzz! I just love the way that the audience reacts, and I feel so sexy doing it!

That said, I think I'd rather strip in front of a large group of strangers than a small group of friends (there is no 'guy') - it's easier to put on the 'persona' that way! Most of my guy friends know I do it, but I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing it in front of them! I tease, though! (A little hip roll here, a little bum wiggle there...!)

Oh, and I have no problem with the uncouth and crass out there. I'm a martial arts instructor and do security work!

Like some have already said, it really depends upon the club. I've been to some clubs that only had very thin dancers and others that had a variety. In my experience it seems that the smaller clubs, or the ones located in a more rural area have a wider variety of dancers. One club that I've frequented has several girls who aren't overweight but they definetly are not the typical thin Barbie doll type. I remember one dancer who was really muscular, she must have done weight lifting. Of course there will be jerks who make rude comments, but don't let that dissuade you. You should really check out some of the clubs in your area. Many clubs have an audition or amatuer night that you could go to and give it a try.

Come on down to Toronto

There's a strip club in Toronto that hosts a strip night, once a month for larger women... they get quite the turn-out too. Amateurs are welcome as well.
I don't know the name of the club but I'm sure it won't be too hard for me to find if anyone is further interested.

Just recently, Toronto has become more aware of the existance of BBWs. Every Friday night at a dance club in Toronto, the place is transformed to house BBWs and their admirers and boy is it a hit. I've been numberous times and it's growing in numbers every week. Actually, a pajama party is close approaching, I don't think I'd miss that one for the world. The promoter is a BBW herself who after being to a few BBW clubs in the U.S. has brought the concept down here, with great success. Thank you Americans, thank you.

I remember watching a show on Comedy Central in the states, ummm I think it was "Insomniac with Dave <something>". In this particular episode he was in Alabama, or Arkansas or someplace in the deep deep south (I'm originally american ). He went to this strip club for BBW's, it was pretty full too, there's always a market imo, but then again america has 250 million+ people and aussie has...not many!
