Fast Art, Good Art, Competive Art....

I was thinking along the lines of a nice Native American blanket. But divy it up however you choose. :D

The more time one spends on an image, the better it's likely to be. Also, not everyone can whip out pics/sketches at the same rate. Beginners are almost always slower. That being said ...

I read the thread that spawned this discussion and personally, I don't have a problem with the current arrangement. I would rather have the option of many "challenges" as opposed to waiting and waiting for one that gets my attention enough to want to participate in it.

I'm just a hobbyist, and so far I haven't had any inspiration for the "challenges" offered thus far. I have also not participated in the voting, but that could change.

Well since you asked to have people jump in, here is my two cents worth.

I dont think time has any bearing on how well a piece looks or is interpreted.
If you look at some of the well known artists you can tell some took a great deal of time and others frankly had little thought yet still maked oodles of cash.

If you compare Rembrant, Da Vinci, Picasso etc to some of the more modern day artists, Im not sure of the guys name that does the splash paintings (know whom I speak of?) there certainly is a difference in thought and product. Is that saying either piece of art is less qualified to be art, NO!

To take it even further, when a child comes home from school and you put their art on the fridge with a big ol'magnet, its art, certainly more crude but its still art.

Now Dark Glasses can whip out a piece of fantastic art in an hour or less, me, it sometimes takes days for me to get it just right (for me). Now I know I am not in the same legue of DG, but all in all, its still art.

Done,

reminds me of one of my choreography classes...

ok you can make a dance but you can only move one arm, and you must have a walk a run and a jump... go!

having re read the thread, my last comment actually makes sence

The reason that our teachers were doing that to us was to get us out of our ruts/comfort zones. Were all the dances great? NO! Were they worthwhile because they made us work and try to fit into the rules we were given, sure.

Contests can do the same thing, make an artist work faster, in different media, or with different subjects than they are used to, is it all great, no. Worth trying... maybe.

Me, I have only recently thought about picking up pen and paper again.
