‘Tidal wave of problems’: With harvest here, Trump’s trade war pushes some US farmers to the brink

Farmers across the country are issuing increasingly urgent warnings that they’ll face grim consequences if they don’t get help selling this year’s bumper crop that many have begun harvesting.

Trade deals many had hoped would quickly emerge after President Donald Trump slapped tariffs on some of the United States’ biggest agricultural customers haven’t come. A farm bailout is no sure thing on Capitol Hill. And farmers — many of whom voted for Trump — say time is running out.

Poor stupid farmers.

They deserve to lose their farms.

Liberals ought to show up on failing farms with suitcases and demand food.

"Dontcha remember what you voted for? You 'own me'. So, feed me. Wow...your farm looks like shit. Better hurry."

The farmers rely on government help in the form of sale of their crops to other countries and direct subsidies during tough times. Tariffs kicked one leg out from under them. The second leg was kicked out with the bbb. The third leg before they fall flat? Could be the sale of their land and bought buy a large agri-corp. I wouldn't think this administration would do something so sinister, nahhh. Time will tell.

Plus the agri food chain has damaged through increased cost for machinery via tariffs. And labor that has been exported/deported. The drought doesn't help the struggling farmer either.

Inflationary measures rising

Why not scale back to providing food just to the United States? Every country has farms.
Some countries produce coffee better than others, some produce diamonds, meat or rice. Global trade in farm produce works much like most other industries, it's best when everyone cooperates. It's called capitalism. Government interference with what is exported or imported used to be thought of as unamerican.

Government already pays farmers not to grow crops. About 9.3 billion annually which equates to about 6% of their income. Socialist policies like these already cost the tax payers and you want to add more? Republicans should call one another “comrade.”
