Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) was once thought to be the man that would oppose Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) from the right. On Tuesday, however, he announced he was resigning from office.
Republicans currently have 222 members in power in the House, and this resignation will reduce that to 221. It means Speaker Kevin McCarthy will need to be even more cautious as he looks for the numbers to pass bills.

he cites his wife's bad health as the reason

according to state law, the primary and general election dates for his seat will be the same as the municipal ones, on Aug.17th and Nov.7th, which leaves mccarthy in an even more precarious position when getting votes

I wish his wife a long life and the best of health going forward. He is an election denier and is a seditionist. Bye, Felicia.
This empowers the House crazies even more. Got my popcorn ready for the wannabe moderates, looking at you Nancy Mace, to defend keeping Santos in his seat no matter what.

And meanwhile, one incumbent (Dan Bishop, NC) has come out in favor of kicking McCarthy out of the speaker's chair. Now that the ice is broken and there's one fewer vote necessary...
