Nothing major league here or of earth shattering importance, but FAO Schwartz is reopening their fifth ave. toy store :)

If you never made it to the store before it closed last year, you missed something special. It was guarenteed to take you back to your childhood. I've seen grown men playing with matchbox cars and grown women playing with hula hoops. It was a magical place, where everyone got to be Peter Pan for a few moments and revert to childhood.

I am hoping the new company dosen't make to many changes :)

I'd love to visit it someday. I'm depressed enough that Toys'R'Us was considering selling off their toy division. What the heck is that about? I miss toys that weren't made of plastic. I love some of the stuff my dad made for my niece . . . I liked playing with some of it more than she did.

LOL - I didn't even know it'd closed.

I visited the store during my last trip to NYC -- and saw "The Lion King" on Broadway, too. That was a good time.

Colly, I didn't know the NY store closed. We had one in Union Square (where Macy, Saks, Neiman's, etc.) and it closed last year. I know it wasn't as big as NY's but it was wonderful, three floors of fantasy and good will. I used to go every so often even way past my sons' youth. P.

The store in Boston closed to, several years ago, and I haven't heard it's reopening. :(

But on a brighter note. THe big bronze teddybear that was out in front of it (probablly 12' high) has found a new home. (It's future was in doubt for a while) It is being moved to one of the local childerens hospitals. :)

they closed them all. A new company bought the assets of FAo inc. after the bankruptcy. the compny did well with it's neato-mosquito high end toys, but they made their main income on regular toys and walmart just flat undercut them so bad they couldn't compete. I am just thrilled they are reopening here :)
