Kara travled down the road to the village of Ranak hoping to reach it before night fall when she caught the sent of smoke in the air. Kicking her horse into a gallop she road faster down the road and around the bend.. the forrest surroundings moving by in a blur, she stopped just ontop the hill she looked down at what was left of the Village.

Vandles had attacked Ranak, men women, and children had been slaughtered, the smell was awful. It looked as tho they hadnt left anyone alive, buildings were burnt to the ground.

Kara road down to the village dismounting and drawing her sword she searched thru the wreckage for any survivers. Anger surged thru her at such a waist of life. Though she loved her mother to death she would never understand the distructions of full blooded humans.

Hearing a muffled cry not far off she hurried over in the direction it had come from. Kneeling down she could see a small boy had been trapped by a fallen beam from one of the buildings. Hold on boy i'll help you out. Give me a moment.

Looking around Kara didnt see anyone but that didnt mean they werent there. Taking a chance she shethed her sword, and found a smaller beam to use so she could prop the beam up off the boy. Once she had the beem moved up enough she knelt down to the boy once more.

Can you move boy or do i need to pull you out? The boy didnt awncer but she could see him trying to move. Once he was close enough she helped him the rest of the way out, and Idrial could see that he was in a state of shock. ontop of being burnt in a few places, along with a gash to his right side that still bled..

After looking him over to be sure that he had no broken bones she picked him up, and carried him back to her horse and mounted up behind him. She had to get his wounds tended to or he wouldnt live long.

The boy still didnt speak or move.. the only way she new he was alive was by the shivers corsing through his small body, and shallow breathing. Idrial judged him to be around no more then 8 or 9 years of age, and his looks were impossable to tell through all the soot.

Feeling as though she were being watched Kara drew her sword keeping it at ready incase she would have need of it. Leaning forward she slid her free arm around the boy to hold him up and take the reigns in her hand.

Kicking her mount in gear she took the boy down the road away from the village so that she could make camp, and try to help him she hoped if nothing else that he would live long enough to tell her what or who had attacked the village. Kara still however couldnt shake the feeling of being watched, and it bothered her greatly.

Liam Lore
Race: Full Elven
Home Village: Ranak
Physical Description: Liam was a marksman by trade but he was also trained to use a sword and he had the body of a swordsman. That meant large thick muscles and thin quick agile legs. His long silver hair and black eyes let everyone know he was a full blood. His pointy ears didn't hurt that point either.
------------------------
Liam was sitting in the tavern having breakfast when the church bells sounded and then he heard the shouts of the town guard out in the streets of Ranak. He quickly finished his meal, dropped some coins on the table, and then rushed out into the streets to see what was going on. The humans and just aligned with the Minotaur tribes to the south of Ranak and they had been raiding the town for some time, though usually there weren't enough of them to cause a real problem.

Today that changed. As Liam reached the streets he could hear the thunderous marching of the Minotaur's as they neared the city walls. He could also smell them, his nostrils flaring a little and he coughed. Nothing smelled worse then the stench of a Minotaur...except a whore army of them. Liam acted quickly and ran up the steps to his post in the watch tower on the southern wall of Ranak. That's when he saw it...about 30 humans and 50 Minotaurs marching towards the city.

The church bells went silent now as the enemy army was quickly approaching. Liam picked up his cross bow and aimed at the first human to come into range. He missed, wide right but hit a Minotaur in the shoulder, enraging the beast and sending it charging towards the city walls. With ease the beast pushed his way through the wall and Liam cussed as he had hopped not to enrage anyone of these beasts.

He fired about 20 more shots, 15 of them finding there mark, killing the humans they struck. Thankfully he had poison tipped bolts and the minotaur he had hit earlier was now starting to stagger, feeling the effects of the poison. He also had about 15 of the town guard to contend with and he was quickly subdued.

Elsewhere in the city others guardsmen were not as successful and it became clear to Liam that Ranak would be lost today and that he should get his wife and child and head for the city of Valdor. Hopefully he would make it there with limited problems.

He left the tower, taking a sword to arm himself with and made his way through the streets towards his house. Thankfully no one seemed to concerned with him and he didn't have to face any of the brutes, just a few humans which were easily taken care of by Liam's expert sword hand.

He entered his house and his saw that his wife and child had already left. She had left a note for him instructing him to head to the city of Valdor and they would meet up there. He gathered what his wife couldn't carry when she left and then headed out for the city. By then most of the town guard were fleeing for the woods and the humans were starting to set fire to the village while the Minotaurs were sent after the guards.

Liam decided that with all these brutes running free it would be easier to hide and then try to head out once things quieted down. He made his way to the north gate and hid in the watch tower there. The screams that filled the air were horrid as women and children that were trying to flee were axed down my the Minotaurs or trapped in there homes and burnt alive.

Hours past and very slowly the sounds of death quieted around the walls of Ranak and Liam knew it was safe to leave. He exited the tower and made his way to the streets and shock over came him as he saw the dead bodies of his friends strewn across the street. The buildings he had helped build burnt to the ground and now lay a pile of smoldering ashes. Tears filled his eyes as he said good bye to his life time home and turned to leave Ranak. Just then a woman on horseback left with a boy. Liam's heart sank lower as it already was, it looked like the boy the woman had on her horse was his son. The boy was to covered in soot to tell for sure. He watched as the woman held the boy and headed north out of the city.

He followed quickly on foot, not wanting to loose track of the two of them. He thought the woman looked elven but she also had some human blood in her and with the new allegiance he wanted to make sure that she wasn't doing anything horrible to the boy, just in case it was his son.

Kara road north putting as much distance as she could between the burnt village and them with the child as injured as he was however it wasnt far enough for her peace of mind but she would make camp and do what she could to aid him.

She slowed and found a place to make camp not far from a river she dismounted and carefully lifted the boy down from her mount wrapping him in her own blanket she made him as comfortable as she was able for the moment not liking having to build a fire as it could draw any enemys about to them, but the boy would need the warmth if he were to survive the night, the air was already turning cold with the weather and soon the rivers would freeze over..

She checked on the boy as she made camp and built the fire keeping him awake knowing that letting him go to sleep was dangerous for the time being.. When she had camp set up for the two of them she moved once more to the boy and begain looking over his wounds.. Here boy ye must stay awake.. tell me yer name lad.. she said receaving only a moan of pain in return.. the burns he had recived would scar as would the wound in his side..

she was somewhat releaved by the fact that it wasnt as deep a wound as she had first thought.. it would need cleaned and normally she would put a pultance and bandage on it but they lacked for time he already felt feverish and that was not a good sign she would have to carterize the wound, and prey for the best as she watched over him.

She removed her dager and set the blade in the flame to heat, she ripped a strip of cloth from the tunic under her armor and with the water she carried in her drinking horn begain to clean the wound, to get a better look at it.. the wound had been caused by a sword rather than an axe.. and from the coloring around it she didnt think it had been poisned..

Seeing that her blade was ready she picked it up and moved close to the boy using her knees and free hand to hold him down.. I am sorry lad.. i'd not cause ye more pain if i could spare ye.. with that she pressed the glowing blade to his wound and held him as he screamed in pain and then passed out cold..

Kara cursed but it was done she checked for a pulse and found the lad yet still lived his breathing still shallow he was a strong lad.. she moved off him and applyed a slave and bandage to the spot to help it heal. As well as washed his face and hands the best she could for now.. she couldnt tell from the soot in his hair if he were blonde or if it were a pailer color such as white grey or silver.. from the point to his ears she knew he was elven.. would he spit on her as well she wondered thinking over the hatred most full bloods held for half breeds

Knowing he would need something to eat once he woke even if it were a simple broth she would need to find something, maybe she could make something out of the dry rations in her pack. it wouldnt taste the best but it might due.. but stopped once again feeling eyes on her as she covered the boy and stood she drew her sword and searched the forrest around them.

Liam walked through the woods, quickly loosing sight of the woman on horseback but he didn't loose track of the hoof prints the horse left as he sauntered along the path. He followed the tracks to a clearing in the woods and watched as she took the dagger from its holster on her side. His heart sank as he saw her set it in the fire. She wasn't going to...oh she was just fixing a wound on his side. He took a deep breath but when the boy screamed out and he was cleaned up a little Liam knew it was indeed his son.

He rushed forward and a twig snapped under his foot and he hid behind a tree, hoping that he wasn't seen. He knew she wasn't a full blood so he didn't know who she was aligned with in the newly started war and didn't want to take any risks. He breaded a little heavily as he felt her eyes on her but they eventually passed.

He waited for her to finish making food from her rasions and to fall asleep. It was a long wait and the night was starting to get cold. He longed to feel the heat of her fire but he didn't know if he could trust her. She hadn't hurt his son...yet but he didn't know how long that would last. He shivered as he watched her finally fall asleep and he made his own camp, bedding down behind a thick grove of trees, hoping he wouldn't be discovered by her.

He stripped his weapon off and layed down next to it, the forest floor being hard and covered in frost by the time he laid on it. He pulled a few blankets from his back and pulled them over his body, but he still shivered. He knew he should make a fire to warm up but he knew he couldn't for it would awaken the strange woman.

The feeling of being watched passed after a time as Kara settled near the boy and the fire.. keeping guard threw the night sleeping lightly from time to time her sword always at her side.. She checked the boy from time to time rousing him enough to get some of the broth she had made down him..

The fever she had felt before raged on the child becoming delerious in his sleep saying something in the elven toung about humans and monsters.. calling out for his mother and father.. not feeling it safe to travle at this point all she could do was hold him continue to feed him and change the bandages on his wounds.

This lasted for 2 days and during that time she continued to feel someone watching them, on the second day the boys fever broke and he was a bit more alert, but still very weak and tired. She made a thicker broth and spoke to the boy as she helped him to eat it. Ye can call me Kara.. i'll take ye with me to a friend of mines who lives deep in the woods not far from here, where you'll be safe and warm.

The boy looked her over and seeing that she was a half elf gave her a look that was both of grattitude and loathing when it looked as if he would try and speak she said.. rest, save yer strength.. you might not think much of half breeds lad but i've saved yer life and thats that..you dont owe me anything but when your better i'd like to know more about what happened to your village.

It was starting to snow lightly and while the boy slept she went about picking up camp watching the woods from time to time.. who ever watched them obviously ment them no harm and was just observing at least for the time being.. who ever they were tho she hoped they made there presents known soon else with out a fire they would freeze soon enough.. She wondered if perhaps it was another survivor from the village who was afraid to approch..

By the time she was done there was no trace that she or the lad had stopped to camp there at all.. as she carefully went over the area.. deciding however that she had had enough waiting for whoever watched them she made the first move.. drawing her sword to protect herself and the boy incase it proved to be an enemy rather than a friend she said.. I know your there who ever you are you'll not survive long with out warmth and food.. come forth and show yourself..

Liam held down in the forest for 2 days, freezing slowly with out a fire as snow started to fall. He shivered as he watched the woman with her son and it made him feel good that she hadn't killed him yet. He actually looked to be getting his strength back and that is what kept him watching. He wanted to know that he was going to be okay.

He almost went to sit by the fire on the second night but he was afraid of waking the woman and startling her. He made due with the thin blankets he had in his pouch. He also had some food in his pack so he was able to eat, but it was just seeds and nuts. He needed to hunt soon but he didn't want to risk leaving his stuff and having it be found by the girl, or having her find his track.

He watched on the third day as the snow started to fall lightly and he huddled under his blanket coldly, watching her clean camp while his son slept. He watched as she cleaned the camp so it looked like no one had been there and he smiled. At least she knew how to clean up so her son wouldn't be found by the Minotaurs who might be searching these woods any time now.

He watched cautiously as she looked in his direction and he drew his sword as she called out. "I know your there also and yes I will not survive long with out your fire" he said showing himself, coming out of the trees and walking into the clearing, his sword by his side. "I am Liam, you have my son" he said, his silver hair blowing a little as the wind picked up. "What are you?" he said looking at her "...A half blood...who's side are you on" he said raising his sword and prepared to strike her down if she sided with her human blood.

Kara raised her own sword taking a defensive stance as the male elf claiming to be the boys father showed himself and came forward.. I take no sides full blood.. save me own.. If this truly be yer son sheath yer blade and come down, See fer yer self he is no harmed save fer what damage happend in the village.. i ha attempted to heal what i can....

She stepped back away from the boy but not far ready to strike should he try to attack her or the child..She watched as he cautiously approched, and looked over the boy.. seeing the expression on his face she knew he spoke the truth, the boy was his and safe but would he trust her further or go his own way..

i've a friend who lives no far from here deeper in the wood where we might all take shelter, and get a decent meal.. when we are safe i would appreceate it if ye would tell me what happened to yer village.. such distruction.. and death should not go un punnished.. she said waiting for him to awncer before she sheathed her own blade still not taking any chances until he put away his..

The snow was falling down around them resting gently for the moment in there hair hers dark his light as her golden amber eyes met and held his.. we need to get you both warm... come.. she said and deciding to take the first step however foolish for the boys sake she sheathed her blade.. I am Kara..

Liam looked at her, his sword still risen "My good dear there are no neutral parties, but seeing how you helped my son I doubt you follow your human blood" He said and sheathed his sword. He walked over to his son and checked his wounds and found that they were healing as one could expect.

He shook young Bane awake and smiled "I have returned to you my son" He said in elvish "And thanks to this girl you have returned to me" He said in elvish, hugging his son to him gently. He kissed the top of his head and the boy started to cry "Shhh its okay, we will see ma'ma soon" he said and then put the boy back down "you need to rest, we will leave in the morning" he said. Bane nodded and rested once more.

"we will go to your friends house, hopefully she has been left alone by the hordes who wander these woods. And I will tell you what happened after we are safe, not here, you never know what lingers in these trees" he says looking around. He then put his hands out and started warming them over the fire. "I am Liam" he said once she gave his name "We stay here for the night, its not safe to travel these woods at this time...not anymore" he said and then threw another log onto the fire.

Kara didnt argue as the fire was rebuilt, and offered the only other blanket she had left to Liam.. I'll take first watch tonight. So you can get some rest..i've few rations left but your welcome to them.. she said getting them from her pouch and handing them to him.

I do not like staying here another night, and so near the village.. but i will not abandon you or the boy we will leave at first light.. the journy will take all of the day..you and the boy will ride while i lead the way on foot..

She stood watch that night waking him later to take his turn and in the morning they cleaned up the area and she waited with the boy in her arms while Liam mounted before handing him up to him.. She then gathered the reigns and begain leading the way.

By night fall they reached her destination.. the cabin was a small 2 room house with a loft above that could be made comfortable for extra guests if necessary.. and a small shelter in back for the horses.. Kara had been here off and on threw her journys and smiled knowing the old woman who lived here would welcome them..

The windows were lit within and smoke came from the chimaney along with the smell of fresh bread and roasting meat.. Kara stopped just outside let me take the boy fer ye i can hold him while ye dismount.. she said holding her arms out to accept the boy..

Just then the door creeked and an old woman standing no more than 4ft in hight with white hair and green eyes peeked out.. Kara??? be that ye lass? Kara smiled as she awncered the woman.. Aye Meg its I.. and i've guests.. 2 elves an elder and his lad.. there village was attacked.. i am na sure by whom or what yet..

The old woman raised an eyebrow curious but opened the door wider so they could enter saying only .. Well then best get them inside out of this weather.. come come.. Kara handed the boy back to Laim and said.. Its alright shes a friend and wont hurt you... she can also help the boy she knows much of healing more than i .. i'll be along as soon as ive seen to me horse...

Kara watched them go in before leading her horse around back to the make shift stable, removing her packs, saddle, tack and horse blanket she brushed him down and saw too it that he had plenty of feed and water before going inside..

The old woman already making up plates of food after directing Laim to settle the boy in the spair room on the bed where he would be comfortable as he slept.. promising to have something ready for him when he woke..

The old woman left them after checking in on the boy.. so that they could talk.. she had set the rooms up so that the boy and his father shared the spare room.. she of corse had her own bed, and she had set up a cot in the loft for Kara..

When they were done eating and the old woman Kara's friend was in her own room with the door closed. Kara looked over at Laim.. What can ye tell me o what happened ta yer village? who attacked ye, and do ye know why?

she asked and waited patently for his awncers, she sat with a tankerd of ale infront of her as yet untouched but appeared relaxed altho she still carried her wepons just incase.. but the expression on her face truly was one of concern. Very few if any had escaped the distruction of his village..
