OK, so the old game of who would you invite to dinner if you could ask anyone past or present is a classic, but I'm adding a new twist... What food would you serve?
Just tell us who you'd invite (it can be sme old friends if that's who you want to see) and then what you'd serve them to eat and drink, from pre-dinner drinks to post-prandial aperitifs...
And what would be the entertainment in an ideal world?

I'm going to kick off with an actual dinner party we're having on Friday. An old friend of the Fiance's and his SO are coming over. Last time I think I went a bit formal with the food, so this time we're starting off with wine or beer and some nuts and crisps (big chunky kettle chips). Then we're having poppadums and chutney and mint/yoghurt dip and maybe onion bhajis if I can be arsed to make them. Then a big fat chicken tamarind curry with cherry tomatoes in, cooked till they're just soft served with hot naan bread.

For dessert I just made lime ice cream - I love a pudding I can make so far ahead of time! It's a gorgeous ice cream, made with cream *and* egg whites so it's soft and light, like a sorbet, but with a nice creamy base. The tangy taste should be great after a hot curry.

Then coffee and shortbread (yum) and the boys will drink gallons of port (last time they managed a bottle each <vom>).

Entertainment will be two grown men getting heinously drunk and spouting off about politics and what's wrong with modern life!

ps- my hands still smell of lime and it's gorgeous - smell of summer.

I love to make dinner parties, but have been kept from doing so for years now due to my horribly small apartment and its equally cramped predecessor.

I have been missing an old group of friends, artists, musicians, writers and dancers that would gather on Saturday night to eat and share our latest endeavors. So my fantasy would be something similar to recapture those days.

The more I ponder the guest list, the more I think I may have to go vegetarian so as to not offend some people I would love to have there (again being fantasy they would say yes), so appetizers of sliced strawberries, grapes, pineapple wedges and caramel, chocolate and yogurt to dip. Then a savory tomato basil soup with garlic bread. Main course would be a alfredo sauce lasagna I've been tinkering with, trying to get to come out right, with a garden salad and side of grilled red and yellow peppers and a White wine or zinfindel. Then a gelatto and sorbet medley for dessert with coffee.

That sounds fantastic - can I come? :D
I sympathise about the small living space. Our flat feels cramped with more than 3 people in, hence why our dinner party consists of only two guests. I'd be happiest with about 6 people, all round a big chunky table, maybe drinks in the garden first. But that's a *real* fantasy at the moment, and will remain so until property prices crash...

Ideally, I'd want a writer, a singer, two musicians, a dancer, a poet and an artist. Being a fantasy, a journalist, a novelist, opera singer, blues singer, guitarist, pianist, floutist, floutist and harpist, belly dancer, ballet dancer, poet photographer and painter.

Choose which placemat fits you and enjoy

I could fill the photographer, poet and painter shoes if you don;t mind that I;m not professional and I can fill the Belly Dancer position if you value enthusiasm over huge amounts of training :D
