Fantastical Orgasms

There is this one story-mill author here, whose characters practically always, and very notoriously, orgasm with stars bursting across their vision. Maybe if he knew about this phenomenon, they'd be seeing whole Star Trek episodes instead?

But more seriously, I see many plots bunnies arising specifically from this part:

For some, it can be awkward explaining these rainbow journeyings to their sexual partners. For others, that’s part of the fun. “My partners love it,” Holly says. “That’s such a thing, somebody popping their head up and being like, ‘What color?’ It’s one of the perks of being my lover.” Rob, the Web developer, says he once had the rare joy of making love to someone else with the condition. “That was a very fun time where we would compare notes afterwards,” he says. “It was so euphoric and shared and beautiful.”

Perhaps instead of just 'comparing notes,' they could find out their synesthetic visions have a surprising number of details in common?

Interesting article and premise.

While I can't foresee basing a story on sexual synesthesia, I might use it as background stuff in an upcoming story involving a female mad scientist, who has invented a high-tech, AI-driven vibrator.

Very interesting. I don't feel an immediate pull to base a whole story on this premise, but definitely something to maybe holster in the toolbelt as a way to add some color (sorry) to a scene.

I've certainly written characters having coloured orgasms - write what you know, right? - but it only merits an extra line in a scene. I'm not sure how you could make a whole story out of it.

Unless you included my partner taking me out to some visual experience like an art gallery or theatre or impressive-looking meal, first, to help trigger the coloured orgasm? Free plot bunny for y"all.

Yeah, I once saw flashes of light and color "at the moment." Turned out to be kids in the alley messing with illegal skyrockets. At least I threw a robe on before chasing 'em off.

Huh...

Personally, I thought intense orgasms were the default, but that turned out to be ADHD hypersensitivity. Synesthesia though, never thought about it. A quick skim is motivating me to incorporate it in some stories since I'm getting quite a lot into color psychology.

If anyone wants more depth on synesthesia, Ramachandran did the early serious work on it. He was one of the founding fathers of cognitive science, late last century. He has a couple of pop science books about how the mind works that are quite readable if you are into that sort of thing. He is also a wonderfully entertaining speaker, if you get a chance. I suspect he is retired now.

Oh... so seeing red and black isn't normal?! My MC very often reports this in her better orgasms... along with falling... sometimes falling upward
