Okay, so... my great-grandfather's first wife committed suicide and killed one of her children. The one that survived she had when she was 15, and he was given up for adoption. Now he's come back to find the roots of his family. My Nana just died, his half-sister, and our family is scattered across the nation. He wants to drive up and visit us. I wouldn't know this man from Adam. What do you think I should do?

Dunno... I lost my Cousin though.. she just up and vanished with my uncle.. the only other family i have besides my mom and dad and my sisters family

meet them, they are relations, they are family and they are a part of your heritage , they are a part of what and who you are

Meet him/them. Family are important. Given your family - I don't think you need feel threatened at all. Things will either be good and you will have received a gift of happiness, and given one. Or they will not be good, in which case you will probably never hear from them again, and you have lost nothing.

Try to convince them to meet you in a neutral place (restaurant etc). Use some excuse about your home not being big enough to put them up and suggest a hotel. That way, if things turn out to be awkward, they won't be staying in your house for a week!
