Family trauma (stepfather/stepdaughter)
This is another story that I've actually heard, such that I knew some of the people involved. (and while it is a story idea I'm giving away, it isn't one where I want to read this story)
Pardon the passive voice for this. I'm just trying to tell what happened with as little detail as possible, so as not to implicate the actual family where this happened.
A couple with children go through a miserable divorce, with greedy lawyers on both sides fanning flames, such that both parents are broke once it's over. The ex-husband leaves, doesn't do any visitation, and other than sending child support checks has nothing to do with any of his first family ever again.
Ex-wife finds dating difficult. She is now a working mother, and for a time, nobody seems interested or interesting. Eventually, she does meet a guy, and after dating for a bit, she introduces him to her children, and while that isn't perfect (her oldest is a daughter and she doesn't like him at all) he seems to be trying really hard, so when he proposes, she says "yes" and they get married.
Things go worse from there. Daughter goes over to wearing black everything, and has a hate-filled relationship with her stepfather. Mom doesn't figure out there is more to this until she finds out her daughter is dancing at her new husband's favorite strip club. Shortly after a big family confrontation over this, Daughter OD's and Mom goes through her second divorce. This all happened (lucky for stepdad) before the Bobbit's had their falling-out, or stepdad might have left home without something...
