"The Sneads, who say they felt sorry for their son's 19-year-old friend after he was left orphaned, have already been named as defendants in two civil lawsuits connected to the Feb. 14 attack at the Parkland school.

One is a wrongful death claim filed by the estate of 18-year-old Meadow Pollack. The other is a negligence complaint filed by the parents of Anthony Borges, the 15-year-old who survived five bullet wounds.
The Sneads anticipate they will be named in more lawsuits in the coming weeks and months. They say they fear the litigation will rapidly drive them into bankruptcy and they don't have the money to even hire an attorney to defend them.

Some see them as saviors who opened their home to a grieving young man after his mother died.

Others say they were naive or negligent and failed to properly supervise a dangerous 19-year-old and his cache of guns."

This is, without any doubt a tragic and unfair situation for This particular family.

On the other hand, could such potential lawsuits be another wake up call for parents regarding the fact that teenagers + guns = not a good combination ?

Exactly. And the military wouldn't take him even if he could pass the psych. tests. In a military where a significant portion of the NonComs have bachelors degree's they have little use for some one that doesn't even have a GED.

As far as the family goes just another instance of no good deed going unpunished.

Actually read the story. He was only in their home 2 months because they felt sorry for him. He was a friend of their son and had nowhere else to go. There is zero chance the military would have taken him because he hadn't even finished high school yet. They claim to have had no contact from police until after the shooting and that he always followed their rules.
Considering the police response to things I gotta believe the family on the contact issue. No reason to doubt that he followed the rules.
You help a kid out cuz for a couple months, you don't deserve to get sued.
They barely knew him.
