The summer sun beamed down upon the lively gathering. At first glance it looked like any other clan gathering. The grill was covered with sizzling burgers and dogs, the tables were groaning under the weight of a diverse array of snacks and side dishes, the drinks were flowing, and while the children played every adult seemed to be catching up with at least two different family members at once.
However, there was more than what met the eye out here. After all, we were a little "closer" than most families, to put it lightly. Hence our special way of going about the annual summer gathering. Outside, it was as wholesome and average as anything one would find anywhere else.
Inside the house however.....it was a bit of a different story. As rules dictated, those of age could go in and out as the please to enjoy whoever and as many others as they so pleased. For some it was the only way they could get some special quality time with a beloved aunt, an adored cousin, or a much-loved sibling who lived too far away.
Some people of course would be horrified. But for us? Mere tradition.
I just finished my second beer when I looked to the house and decided I had done enough catching up for now out here. As a second year med student, I desperately needed to relax more than usual. I put my cup down, and carried my lanky, twenty-three-year-old body inside. I barely opened the door when I heard all the familiar sounds.....that chorus of grunts, moans, gasps, and the sound of bodies eagerly slapping together.
