So we're driving up to my parents place tomorrow. Their winter home is in a place that had some flooding. (Melbourne Florida) From what they have heard from their neighbor there the water didn't get to the level of their flooring. We shall see. (If it did then I know what I'll be doing this winter. Helping my father replace the flooring.)
My mothers concerns though rest on the cabinet out on their patio. This cabinet holds their Christmas Ornaments. Now most of these ornaments aren't a big deal. They are easily replaced. Three boxes though hold memmories and I'll be looking for them.
The first box holds the Christmas tree topper. This was given to my mother by her mother when she was first married.
The second box hold a bunch of porcelin birds and candle holders. My parents bought these their first Christmas while they were still living in Germany.
The third is a string of Oil Lights my Grandfather gave my parents their first year they lived in the United States.
I told my parents I would look for these. What I didn't tell them was I would recover them and bring them home with me. If they got wet I will be drying them out and repairing them. These are things my parents could do without, but they hold memmories for them and they will be saved if possible.
Everything else of value is either in Mass. or stored at a higher level than the flood waters could have reached.
What the hell, it's only a couple of hour drive up there and they are family. Doing this on my day off is not a big deal for me. Hell if the bike starts tomorrow morning we might take that up there for a nice little ride.
