One of my Brothers and SIL have it. They are hanging down on the farm.

Seems to be one of the lighter strains...so far.

at a recent dr's appt. i asked the nurse if she knew anyone personally who had had covid. she said that her next door neighbors' son had come home from college and infected both the mother and father. they all 3 had mild cases. in the nurse's own family, she said that her aunt had given herself a birthday party and invited 20 people. all 20 people, including the children, had developed covid and the aunt and uncle were on ventilators. nobody knew who had infected who.
i then asked the dr. and he said that he didn't personally know anyone but that a patient, the day before, had told him about a family at his church. the mother, father and toddler had all been infected, the mother and child both died.

A lady Friend of mine had a higher light strain of it some months ago and still suffers from strange side effects!

Personally I think her and I had a very light strain of it last January but we just could NOT get anyone to test us.

I even had a registration number with the State of Texas to get tested the next time there was a place nearby to get tested at.

I finally just gave up!

They were amazed when the States numbers JUMPED up all of a sudden when they got serious about testing for it!

A friend lost his Mother to it.
Another friend lost his Dad.

I just keep on hoping and do a little lecture with my Mom each night.

Way back when people were starting to get concerned about Covid but before everything started to shut down — I think it was the first weekend of March — one of our friends in Texas took her teenager to the hospital with a lingering illness. They know she didn't have the flu because they checked, but this was the era when you couldn't get a Covid test unless you could answer yes to the "have you been to China recently or been in contact with anyone who has" questions. So they just assume she had it.

Deaths per capita is still a better indicator than cumulative documented cases as to how much Covid a particular state has had, because hardly anyone was getting the test back in the spring.

The husband was quite sick back in Feb. Horrible cough,a cough that made him vomit, fever, body aches and spent a lot time sleeping. Took a good 6 weeks to get over it.

Called the doctor and seeing he hadn't traveled to Iraq or Hong Kong, they wrote it off as a virus. There was no testing yet.

Usually I catch what he has. I did not.

Scientists have divided coronaviruses into four sub-groupings, called alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. Seven of these viruses can infect people:

229E (alpha)
NL63 (alpha)
OC43 (beta)
HKU1 (beta
MERS-CoV, a beta virus that causes Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)
SARS-CoV, a beta virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)

SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19

There is only one strain that causes covid 19.
How you react to an infection is down to a whole range of underlying factors

Yeah, I had it (tested positive for it) and it was like the flu. I suppose if I had exacerbating health issues that it might of killed me instead of just making me feel miserable. I suspect that many times, people who die from it and who were deemed healthy really did have some underlying problem that was yet to become symptomatic. It's a crying shame that we've allowed it to wreck our economy; no ultimate good can come from the lingering effects of that when it devastates the middle class creating a nation of haves and have-nots.

It ran through my youngest's family. Varying degrees of mild.

Exactly on the destruction of the economy. The shutdowns are driving everyone to the big box stores which actually increase the potential for contagion. Notably their business is thriving and that is being reflected in the stock market. Unfortunately most of the rest of the economy isn't listed on the NYSE so those concerns that are going under have no effect on the markets consequently there's no glaring metric to reflect the true damage being done.

Re. the death rate. Yes, it's horrible for those that are susceptible to the worst the Wuhan Flu has to offer. However I would also point to the deficits being run by the various states and the federal government. When this disease has run its course, and it will, and all of those businesses that used to contribute to the tax base are gone, who's going to be picking up the tab?

Removing human contact from transactions is highly effective in reducing social empathy.

It won't be the suicides or those who died because the medical community was focused on "pandemic" which is a real fancy way of adding "Dem" to panic.

I wonder when that number will be known?

I'm pretty sure that from Jan 20 and on, the Pandemic will be a nothing burger.
Joe will be of the opinion that even though he promised he would successfully fight it, he just didn't know how bad it was because Trump was a liar and the press was covering for him.

;) ;) :p

I tested positive for COVID after Thanksgiving. Symptoms were cough that went away after 4 days a mild headache throughout and loss of taste and smell.

I feel bad for those that have lost their lives from this. But I have had worse flus in the past.

If you're going to widen the gap between the haves and have nots, whether by design or circumstance, it helps if people are as untethered to each other as possible.

I, and others, have long noted that the majority of people think they're doing pretty good, but that they are sure their neighbors are not. That's because they consume the daily news which preaches doom and gloom, more so when Republicans do well electorally. When Democrats are in charge, they report excuses, usually involving Republicans because it has been shown time and time again, the majority of the media are Democrats, or at least sympathizers.

I, from my experience, also think this is closer to the normative but that could not be reported in the face of an upcoming election.

On a side note, this thread is exemplar as to why the politics board should never have been created. Real life involves politics at all levels, and we need commentary on what people think, but when you move everything to a thing entitled "Politics," many people don't want to participate because politics is so nasty. And that board is a very nasty place where opinions are not moderated by outside influences; it's nothing but an echo chamber where Trump single-handedly created and launched the virus in the hopes that it would kill Democrat voters, minorities and women.
