A while ago I posted a story called "A Scoundrel's Folly".

While I was in the process of writing said story I shared drafts of it with another user on here. He was supportive and helped me with some issues I had, but he didn't like the setting I used, and he asked me if he could make his own edit of my story to put it in the real world.

I gave him permission, and he used an unfinished draft I'd sent him to accomplish this. He was able to do so and finish before I made the last corrections on my own version of the story. He posted it a few days before I posted my version, thinking nothing would come of this.

Sadly it seems someone read both versions, and came to the conclusion that I had plagiarised his story. I was notified that my story had been reported and taken down.

I resubmitted my story with an explanation as to what happened about a month ago, but nothing has come of it.

I'm not really experienced with this site, so apologies if I'm coming across as impatient. But is this sort of waiting period normal or does it mean I'm being ignored or something?

Guess what? You learned to never share your completed, or nearly completed, work over the internet with a stranger.

Cruel I know but, better luck next time.

The best place to put this query is in the Authors hangout. And FYI the GB is notorious for being full of assholes and troglodytes.

Comshaw

So you're saying I shouldn't publish my book about a plantation in the south during the Civil War? I was really looking forward to getting some feedback on Brett Cutler and Crimson O'Sullivan.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day I guess.

He wasn't exactly a stranger. Ive been taking to this person for years, and he had nothing to do with the story being removed.

Thanks for the polite advice. I'll see about trying there.

I sort of assumed the entire forums were to do with the writing side of literotica. Didn't realise it was for general stuff too. A bit silly of me in hindsight but I don't really know how these ancient forums work.

He stole your story and beat you to the publisher with it. He had EVERYTHING to do with your story being removed.

He asked if he could write an alternate version of it. I said go ahead. That's hardly stealing.

Arpy's right, though. Unless the other guy PMs Laurel that the story is yours (in which case it would be his version that was deleted), Laurel has no basis for thinking it's yours and you have no kick. As Arpy first posted, this mainly is a lesson to you.

Arpy's right

We need to make note of this historic occasion.

I don't think he uses these forums so I don't think he PM'd her directly. He told me he sent an email explaining the situation, though like me he received no response.

Is Laurel the only person who moderates this sort of thing? If so I guess I should be more understanding about the wait.

Emails aren't read by the Web site admin. Yes, Laurel, the submissions editor (and one of the site owners) is the only one who can do anything about this. And she can only do something about your specific issue if the other person sends her a PM and explains what happen--and is willing to have his version taken down instead of yours. She has no other basis to believe in your claim.

And what will be really significant here is the day that Harpy posts something not snide and a lie that I was correct in responding to an actual Literotica author, right? That's when we get the measure of Harpy. :D
