Falling for a fallen goddess

Name: Joshua Winters

Age: 24

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 265lbs.

Eye/ Hair color: Brown/ Dark brown (looks black in some light)

Bio: Joshua was raised by a typical American family they went to church on Wednesdays and Sundays. He was a shy kid growing up until he hit high school then he broke out of his shell. He always had a hard time with the ladies where he went to school most of the time they wouldn’t even bother to get to know him. If they did they would find out he was caring and willing to please them. He went to collage far away from his home town hoping he could finally find someone who would be willing to get to know him. He did find someone around his junior year he lost his virginity to her and then after he found out she was cheating on him with any man ready to have sex with her. Needless to say he broke it off and figured he would wait until he was out of school to date. He kept talking to other women hoping he could find someone who would be worth breaking the promise to his self of not dating till after collage. He was a geek at heart he wouldn’t play any MMORPGs but he would play other RPGs like elder scrolls or anything with a RPG element to it. He love to watch comedy specials on TV and he would watch shows like the Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, and anything else he found funny. After collage he got a job at a local electronics repair shop where he would pretty much fix anything that came into the shop. His degree was a broad degree it encompasses everything from computer networking to fixing actual circuit boards removing the components and replacing, soldering them back on the board. He really did go to church much given the fact he could be called out to a job or into work on his days off which disappointed his parents but they knew he needed to do what he could to survive on his own.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joshua was at work late he had to do some end of the week tallying of the receipts and money in the safe. The owner trusted him to do this seeing how he knew how to operate Microsoft Excel fairly well. Plus the owner love that he could keep the shop open later if he wanted to take in some longer time frame jobs so they won’t waste a day consulting the customer on what was going to be done and they could have some extra time to do the actual work.

It’s was time to lock up the shop for the night he finished the paperwork early and no one was coming in so he figured he could lock up early. He walks to the back door where he hears a loud banging sound a flash of bright light. He went to lock up the front of the shop he figured if whatever was back there would still be back there when he was done and if it was a robot sent from the future to kill him at least his boss couldn’t say he didn’t have the shop locked up before he died. He went back to the ally way and said “hello is there anyone or anything here you can come out I won’t hurt you if you here to hurt me then stay there and I’ll leave” chuckling at the end.

He heard someone or something stir near the back door of the shop again. He waited to see if it was an animal or some kid playing a prank on the store thinking the owner was here.

Goddess

I didn't know anything. Just the falling, the world rushing up to meet me. It hurt so much but then it stopped thankfully. It was dark outside, I was almost naked. My hands found the talisman around my neck and I clutched it like my life depended on it. I didn't want to be alone, I needed to get back....but I couldn't remember where. Where was I supposed to go? What was I supposed to do?

My body screamed at me to run, fly....wait...fly? I can't fly, what in the?

I got up off the ground, tripping over the fine sheer cloth I was draped in. It was belted at my hips, and split on each side, with every step it revealed my legs from my hip bone to my bare feet. I was cold, the garment must have be backless, I can feel the air touching my skin. It damn near reveals everything. I just keep holding onto the talisman. It seems familiar.

I hear a voice, do I understand it? No, well...maybe. How do I respond to something I don't understand?

I wait a few seconds trying to concentrate to figure out what to say or if I know how to say it. My hands hurt from holding the talisman, I'm squeezing it so hard. I start to cry, clenching my jaw in frustration and panic. I just stay frozen, surrounded by darkness, wondering who and what I am.

I walk up the alley way some more hoping that it isn’t some animal with rabies or anything like that because that the last thing I need tonight. As I keep walking up I start to hear crying I sigh to myself glad it isn’t some animal ready for an attack though the person could be in distress and ready to find someone off.

I approach the crying slowly seeing that it was a woman in some weird dress shoeless and probably cold. I extend my hand in her direction and say “I’m not going to hurt you I just want to help you” with a smile on my face to show I’m friendly not in any way harmful to her.

As my eyes adjust to the dark a little more a see a beautiful woman clutching a necklace like her life depended on it. I say again slowly this time and make sure to enunciate every word in case she was deaf and can read lips “I’m not here to hurt you I want to take you inside the shop here so you can warm up and calm down so I can help you better.” My hand still outreached to her so I can help her up. From her dress it looked like she came from some kind of toga party either from frat house or some ones party. I just waited for her to either take my hand or say something so I can know that she understands me.

He appears out of the dark and he's huge. He outweighs me by at least 100lbs and towers over my 5'9" frame. My instincts kick in hard to run, or fight.

He bares his teeth which sends me into a panic. I leap forward to try and get past him but the dizziness causes me to get very disoriented. I open my mouth to tell him to leave me alone.

"Ak nam boshin a ka!"

It's definitely not the same language he speaks. He probably won't understand me.

"Ak nam boshin a ka," I plead with him to leave me alone, more words start coming out faster than I can even process, "tan mag hanamo prat a ka. Ahn nuk a bahira taha ya..."

He looks as confused as I feel, I just hold one hand out, palm facing him as an order to stop, trying and hoping he stays away.

"Jahana tajna," I tell him. Please...please don't.

I see that she is dizzy from something and the gibberish she is saying isn’t really helping the situation at all. He sees her put her hand out like an order to stop. I stop look at her and shake my head I go to the back door which is away from her and unlock it.

“I’m sorry for what I’m about to do but this is going to be better than having the cops come and put you in the drunk tank… I’m sure that there will probably some women there that will take that you are saying as an insult and shatter your face all over the floor” I said as I pick her up carrying her into the store.

I feel her kick and scream the same gibberish words as before. Luckily for me that this district is mostly businesses very little residents in the area if it was the other way around the cops would have definitely been call to the shop by a worried neighbor. I set her down at my work station which as a very comfy chair. I tell her “Stay here I’m going to try to research the words you just said to me so I can get some questions in your native tongue…. Here read this” I say to her handing her a dictionary hoping if she reads this it will either help her remember English or keep her occupied until I dose the research.

I look at his workbench and see his tools/toolbox setting there. I grab them and say to her “not like you’re going to understand me but I’ll be taking these I don’t need the whole live by the sword die by the sword translated into live by your electronics repair tools die by them.”

I hope she wouldn’t see stuff like the isolation transformer or oscilloscope as weapon either. I have said in the past that geeks and nerds didn’t need guns when I would come to self-defense our tool could would do of course I was joking when I said that but in all seriousness they probably could be used as that. Some of them do have quite the heft at the end of the cord could be used as a rudimentary morning star or hammer of mars weapons. Then I realize I just gave her a hefty book which could be used to bludgeon me to death.

I went to the computer and booted it up keeping an eye on the door way for an attack from the woman in the other room. After a couple of hours of searching I give up and hope she would pick up something from the dictionary so she could string a statement together. Unfortunate for me the only exit that her or I would have to the outside was in the back. I slowly step from around the corner expecting the book to be thrown at me. I say to her “ can you understand me now or are we going to have to play Pictionary or something” I literally cross my finger and look up begging in my mind that she somehow understands me now and wait for a response from her.

The big man picks me up, like I weigh nothing and carries me inside a weird building. There are lots of machines. At first I can't help but fight him, he doesn't react like he plans to hurt me so I settle down eventually.

He brings me a rather large book and says a few more things before walking out. Is he coming back? I look at the book again. I wait a little while before getting bored and opening the book and sitting it on the counter. It has a few pictures next to the words. I start turning pages very quickly, why I don't know, but it's almost as if my brain knows what to do.

As fast as I can turn the page I absorb the words and meanings. It doesn't help me remember anything about myself but maybe now I will be able to speak to whoever he is in the next room.

By the time he returns I've made it to the letter U.

"Just give me another minute," I tell him, surprising myself.

I keep turning pages, my eyes flit over the words, the information appears in my brain. Its amazing. I wonder if everyone learns like this.

Voracious, that's a good word. I'm almost done now.

W, lots of good words in this section.

I keep turning pages. I can see what's his face watching me over my shoulder.

"Watching me don't make me read faster," I tell him.

I keep turning pages. Surely he must have seen someone else do this before.

Z, finally!

I finally close the book.

"I'm sorry about earlier, I just couldn't understand you," I tell him and I turn the office chair around, "what's your name?"

I am in shock and awe watching her read the dictionary as fast as she did. I could never sit still long enough to ready ten pages but she was burning though the dictionary like nothing.

When she told me watching her wouldn’t make her read faster my jaw almost hit the floor. I would have looked like a cartoon person if my skin would have let my jaw drop to the floor.

“I’m sorry for staring I’ve never seen anyone read the dictionary that fast before” I said trying not to make the situation any more creepier than it already was.

She either ignored me or didn’t understand what I was saying again. So I stopped watching her and waited for her to say something again.

I heard her apologies for earlier and ask me what my name was I told her “My name is Joshua but I like to be called Josh.” “What is your name?” I ask hoping to at least get that much

Now that she wasn’t freaking out she look really beautiful I think to myself.

My name, he's asking for my name and I don't know what it is. I sit and think, i just can't remember.

I start to get upset again, "I don't know, I can't remember."

I turn away from him and try not to cry. I can't remember anything. I'm supposed to do something and I don't even know what it is.

"All I remember is falling," I tell him quietly.

I start running my hand through my long auburn hair, before twisting a piece of it around my finger, feels natural like I do it all the time. Maybe?

I sigh softly. The book helped, I know words now but some things I just can't fit together.

Great I think to myself she doesn’t know her name which means if I take her to the hospital they may keep her there until she remembers or completely shut everything off.

I slyly look her up and down to try to find some resemblance of pockets on her what I am assuming is a costume dress but can’t see anything. I think to myself “I can just take her to my place and give her my bed and I sleep on the couch…. I think I should still have a box of my one of my ex-girlfriend’s old clothes she ,stuffed in the back of my closet, wanted to take to good will or a thrift store.”

“Seeing how you can understand me now I’ll let you decided instead of just making you go seeing how you don’t remember your name and I can’t take you to the hospital to see if anything is wrong with you…. You can stay at my place till you get better.” I said to her trying to be kind to her.

"Why can't I go to the hospital, don't they help people who need it?" I looked at him, confused.

I don't know why I can't remember anything. The dictionary said doctors help people with medical problems. Maybe I should go see one. But I don't even know where I am or how to find a hospital.

I clutch the talisman again. I look down at it, it's a pair of wings with a rather large green gemstone in the middle; it's an emerald I think. I know I have looked at it a thousand times before.

I keep holding onto it, my knuckles turn white.

"How do I know I can trust you?"

I answer her “yeah they help people but you don’t know your name so they can’t pull up your medical records.”

I see her clutch the pendent around her neck again “if you don’t stop clutching the pendent so hard you’re going to end up destroying it or cutting your hand open plus it’s not like it’s going to fly away it’s connected to the necklace around your neck.”

“Because if I wanted to hurt you I would have already done so by now plus if you go to the hospital and tell them you can’t remember anything they will keep you up all night to run tests and in case you have a concussion. They will also keep people coming and going at all hour and I don’t know if you like needle or not but they will poke you with a lot of needles to run some blood tests and to run an IV. So you can go to a hospital and get nowhere or you can come home with me and at the very least get a good night’s sleep then we will try the whole remembering thing again in the morning it’s up to you.” He told her trying to make a case for his self.

I glare at him, "I'll do whatever I want."

I don't like being told what to do or not do.

He does have a point, he could have easily hurt me but that doesn't mean he still won't try later. I consider his offer, sleep does sound like a good idea. He makes the hospital sound like a terrible place, maybe I shouldn't want to go. I don't know anymore.

"Fine, I'd like some sleep at least," I agree.

“ I wasn’t telling you what to do I just don’t think you want to cut yourself then have to use these old cold war relics” I said pointing to a ALICE pack that probably still had the same medical supplies in it that it did when it was stored for use. “I don’t know if medical supplies can expire and I don’t want to know. Plus I’ve already learned not to tell a woman what to do.” I said picking up my jacket.

I hand her my jacket and say “here you can wear this it should be a lot warmer than what you have on now… when we get to my house there is a box with all my ex’s old clothes that she didn’t want any more a was going to take them to goodwill but she stuffed the box in my closet and forgot about it so you can have anything in it you want.”

I look for something I can wrap around her feet to use for shoes seeing how she doesn’t have chemical impregnated in them from the years of use around the shop. I look at her and ask “do you want me to carry you seeing how you don’t have any shoes or are you ok with getting glass, dirt ,and pretty much anything else that the sidewalks have on them risking cutting up your feet and the potential for infection from the whatever you get in the cuts?”
