Amelia "Amy" Jones rushed into the Bureau nervous about joining a new team in the criminal profiling unit after moving from terrorism, her last mission had been a close call and after the situation she was put in she requested a transfer after.

"Amy Jones " she said introducing herself to the man to her left and the rest of the team as she settled herself in knowing it would be a bit strange being a new agent to this unit but she had heard things about this team and they would all have to learn to trust each other, especially in the field.

The team leader Agent Gibson briefed us on an active case " Three females murdered in Utah, hearts missing, message carved into the women's stomach, the killer went for a specific type, women late 30's, black hair, blue eye, fit, " she examined the pictures feeling terrible fornthem women but they were assessed and heard.

" Wheels up in ten" she heard and immediately went to grab her things as the team drove to the airport and got on thier private planes.

" What do we know about the killer so far ? I ask the man my assigned partner, Ethan Stoneman

Ethan Had been with the agency for a few years. He wasn't a rookie anymore but every time a murder happened, it seemed to trump the previous one with their wickedness.

"We went through the victim's records, emails, phone calls, social media, no matches" I replied while sitting in my chair as the aircraft prepared for take off. The hatch was shut and the pilot began the takeoff procedure. I turned at the waist and handed Amy some photos. "These are from the autopsy. The Doc thinks the carving was done with the same blade, he thinks a large scalpel or exact-o knife." Each victim had the same message carved into them, though the first one was rather messy in its implementation. The following victims showed improvement.

'I deserved this'

That what was carved into them. "No DNA or hair was found at the scene. They were dumped there to be found." I looked over and Amy was looking at the pictures.

"And the way the hearts were removed would suggest an understanding of the human anatomy. And each of the victims having the same description, would mean that this killer is projecting a particular person onto them."

"Right" I nodded. "Perhaps someone that wronged him, a rejection by a girlfriend or a wife?"

I nod looking at the pictures "Perhaps, also look at how the bodies are laid, these women have to represent someone in his life who wronged him, he wanted them to be open humiliated, when we land we need to speak to the victims families, these women had some sort of connection, he hunted them , analyze them, the attacks don't seem randomly me , the seem like a pattern" I say handing the photos to you.

We are off the flight in three hours and head to the crime scene the team split and the two of us head to one of the victims house " I'll look into the victims interest while you interview the family, he's killed the last victim within 72 hours, the recently kidnapped woman has about 48, we need to work quickly " I say and knock on the door

" Good afternoon Ashtons , I'm Special Agent Jones, this is Special Agent Stoneman, were here to speak with you about your Daughter Julie may we come in?" I ask the worried liking family.

The Simmons family was a typical family you would find in a Hallmark movie. Husband and wife, both retired and living out a life of relative comfort. Both the husband, Theodore, or Theo, and the wife, Megan, were retired teachers. Their house in the suburbs reflected the blue collar people of the area. It wasn't a rundown slum we would see in the city.

Mrs. Simmons was unable to speak. She sat on the couch beside her husband, trembling with red eyes from crying. Neither of them had been able to sleep in two days.

This is the part I hated. We would try everything in our power to find their daughter but we couldn't make a promise of finding her alive. That would give them false hope so where if we did find her dead, the blow would hit extra hard. Mr Simmons was sitting rigid on the couch, his left hand holding onto his wife's hand, his eyes locked onto me. "Mr. Simmons, I know this is hard for you, but I need to ask you some questions" I said softly as I sat across the coffee table from me. He only gave a firm nod. "Sir, did your daughter have a boyfriend or someone close?"

"No" he said dryly. "I know she tried. She tried dating sights and all that," waving his right hand. "But she couldn't find anyone, at least nothing that I know."

I feel sad for the family but remain professional, cases like this always were hard to deal with, she felt for the family but they needed to find the connection between the girls. " Would you mind if I checked your daughters room? Maybe I can find something there that can lead us to our suspect" I say taking a look around and analyzing the house while you spoke and i pick up a suspicious string from the seal of Julie's window, similar to what wave seen on the girls and bag it.

I motion to you that I'm ready and tell the family and i say " Thank you for your time Asthons, if you hear anything please dont hesitate to contact myself or Agent Stoneman" I say before we head out the door

" Get any information from the family?" I ask as we head back to the car.

"Not a whole lot" I replied to Amy as we entered the car. "The mother didn't say a word. Her father said that their daughter had tried dating sites a year ago, but nothing came of it. As far as he knows, she's had no serious relationship. The only people she talks to on a regular basis are those at work. That's where we're going to next."

As we leave, the rest of our team remains at the house to gather evidence from the computer and anything else that would be of use.

"She works at a mid-level firm doing data entry," I said. "We'll go talk to her work friends. Maybe they'll know something else."

Amy listened to her partner speak, it was understandable the family was still shaken by the gruesome death, but I knew the suspect had to be targeting these women in a specific way. We leave the team with the family to gather more intel and head to the car.

" The firm sounds good, we need to know what cases she saw info on, poor girl could have stumble upon something she wasn't supposed to see." I say looking at the notes " something feels off about this" I say trusting my instincts.

" We can go over thi s again once we get more intel from her job"

The rest of our team stayed behind to go over the house, processing information from her computer and from any personal papers that they could find. As grieving parents, they didn't interfere with the investigation, though they couldn't offer up much information at the same time. Their daughter kept things close to the chest.

The firm that our victim worked at was Mullen Investment Firm, a large and prosperous hedge and mutual fund firm that had a annual income of around one-billion dollars.

The man we wanted to speak to was the firm's president, Mr. Dennis Lennox. He'd been president for nearly ten years, taking the reins from his father. When we entered the facility, there were discretely armed guards at the entrance, men wearing suits but had earpieces and shades, much like a stereotypical Secret Service agent.

My partner and I showed our credentials and we were escorted to the president's office. He was surprised to see us. "Mr. Lennox," I began, "Do you know why we're here?" The slim man in a fine Italian suit, sitting behind his ornate live oak desk was stumped. "One of your employees has been killed."

Amy observed the man's body language as they entered the office and he seemed to be suprised they had been there. Ethan asked him a few questions about the young woman and then she asked him some herself see the man had gotten defensive by some things they asked.

" Mr Lennox, we aren't accusing you not anything we just need to ask the questions they are standard, we need to know everything, the suspect chose these women for a reason, we are looking for the connection" I say seriously then glance at you for a moment , it seemed like the man had a problem with women questioning him so Amy decided to leave her partner to the questioning.

"I'll go grab us some coffee" I say and give him a quick glance before stepping out rolling my eyes inwardly as I felt the man's eyes on me and my rear as I left.

That was code between Amy and I for me to turn up the heat on Mr. Lennox by playing the Man Card. I tried to act real casual, like what happened just before was a professional facade for Amy's amusement.

I sat in a fine leather chair in front of Mr. Lennox's desk, cross my legs, and sighed, "Ah. Well, can't please everyone" I said casually.

"Is she always like that?" Mr. Lennox scoffed.

"Naw. Not always. Sometimes she's competent" I chuckled. It was all part of the ploy to get Mr. Lennox to open up. Nothing I was saying about Amy was true in the slightest, but Mr. Lennox didn't know that. "I tell ya, sometimes I can't get anything done because she's always on me."

"Yeah. I hear ya" Mr. Lennox sighed. "I don't really like having women here. They're too much of a distraction. The men here should be focused on their job, working the numbers, but having them around here-they lose focus."

"Was Julie Ashton a distraction?" I asked. "I mean, she looks pretty cute in her photos."

"Yeah. She was," Mr. Lennox sighed then fiddled with his tie. "She didn't talk much to the male employees except a couple of them. There were no complaints against her but she didn't talk much to anyone. She was usually just in her office with the door shut."

"A woman that pretty and no one was going after her?" I asked.

"No" Mr. Lennox shook his head. "I mean, they tried. But she didn't accept. When she turned down some of them, there was a rumor going around that she was really a lesbian."

"Was she?" I asked.

"I don't know" he shrugged his shoulders.

Amy took the time Ethan took with the boss to interview the boss and decided to speak with the secretary. She learned more about the narcissistic sexist boss but other than that she hadnt gained any more knowledge about the victim that she need.

She saw Ethan exit the office and Mr. Lennox basically undress her with his eyes, she scoffed and laughed "`In your dreams" she said as they made their way out of the office and they made their way back to the car and can be couldn't help but let out a little laugh " I've never seen a man so full of himself, the secretary was a dud, I barely got any information from her, they don't tell her much, did you get anything from him?"Amy asked

She took her tablet out to go over the information the tech analyst sent them.

"A bit more than you" I replied. "He said that our victim didn't socialize with many of the other employees, that she turned down some of them for dates. There was even a rumor that she was gay. But I doubt that. I got the key to her office. Let's check in there," holding up a small, silver key with a plastic tag.

We were trying to be discrete but it was obvious we weren't from around here. Seeing two people in suits walking around and going into an employee's office was certainly going to cause some murmurs between the cubicles.

We disregarded them and went into our victim's office. It was neat and clean. She kept things rather Spartan in here. There was a computer desk with a monitor. The server was underneath the desk. Her chair and one filing cabinet. There were some framed photographs along the walls, mostly of kittens or full grown cats. Must be an animal lover.
