With all the people claiming military service who never served, or not in the capacity they're claiming, who in their right mind would do a fawning story on a Seal with dozens of medals without doing a background check?
Yeah, maybe in the 80's, but these days? You have to be kidding me.

On October 8 the Fox show America’s News HQ aired a segment about John Garofalo....

While Garofalo did serve in the Navy, he was never a member of the SEALs, he never received even one Purple Heart and the closest he got to Vietnam was Spain.

The military newspaper Navy Times first revealed Garofalo’s deception. He told the publication that he had told the false story for years.

Garofalo was in the Navy from 1963 to 1967. He was assigned to a tour in Rota, Spain as an aviation boatswain’s mate, a ground-based officer who operates and performs maintenance on boats and aircraft. The only medal he ever received was the National Defense Service Medal.

Several retired SEALs told the Navy Times that they contacted Fox the day after the segment aired asking for a retraction. But the network did not remove the false story from its Facebook page until yesterday. (Oct 19)

There are more fake elite squad "members" than real ones.

Just reading a book about South African Recces.

This is neither a surprise nor unique. There were 2,600,000 men and women that served boots on the ground in the Vietnam theater of war. In the 2000 national census there were over 13,000,000 claiming that status. Wannabe's. Claiming to be part after the fact and the fighting is done of course. Why? To insert themselves into the narrative and appear to be something they were to afraid to be. As I said, neither a surprise or unique.

The fact that someone did it is neither a surprise or news.

What's very surprising and newsworthy is that Fox did the piece on him without doing a background check.

Fox do love their fake military experts.

Are you sure 13,000,000 people claimed combat service? What I mean is that somebody might say he or she was in the Service during the Viet Nam era but not claim to have been in combat.
