I plan and I plan, and then I get into the story and the characters surprise me and do exactly what they want to do no matter what I think about it. But I've come up with some pretty interesting plot points that way, so I can't complain.
If you're writing a mystery or suspense novellas, which is what most pulps features, it's probably not the best way to go about it.
It's fantasy erotica... I'm not organized enough to write mystery or suspense. I like the freedom of seeing how the story wants to tell itself. I know the ending and some of the things that will happen, but the rest, I come up with when the story takes me there.
As far as output... Some people can write one perfect novel, and then they stop. Harper Lee comes to mind. I figure I have three novels in me, not including the one I've already written, which was only just a story that got out of hand and turned novel-length.
