Extended Wait Time

I have submitted a story over a week ago that has not been posted yet and have submitted another just a few days later, again not posted. As far as I can tell, there were no problems with the submissions and when I check the status they are under the catagory of "not ever approved" and "pending". Each of them have from three to five hits, which I assume are internal. Is this a normal delay time or do you think something is not right?

wait time

I have usually waited only four or maybe five days before a story is posted and I usually had 10-15 hits or more before my stories were accepted.

Two questions, have you accessed your stories by clicking on the "pending" link? If so, have you made any changes to your story?

If you have done either of those you must click the "save changes" button on the bottom of the main submission page of your member pages.

You might also wish to check out the editors forum or find a volunteer editor to help you with the writing details -punctuation, spelling and correct use of quotation marks (one set per paragraph) are the most common reasons for delay or rejection.

Hope that was in some way helpful. Good luck and I'll look for your story soon.

I've had stories take as little time as a couple of hours to be posted and then again others that took ten or so days. It really depends on how much of a backlogg Laurel has at any given time. I know it's frustrating, but there's really nothing to worry about.

I have had story pending for over a week and maybe over ten days. That is my first story and I wondered if you could explain the process of how a story is choosen. esp, about the hits. I knwo what a hit is but in this case who does the "hit"? Either I missed it, which is ppossible, or I didn't see anyting in the FAQs that explained.

If you make changes in your story and save it, it goes to the bottom of the list of pending stories; so that takes longer to get posted. Just stop checking on it every few hours, will ya? :p

Here you go

One consideration that Laurel takes into account is trying to keep a consistent mix and number of stories in each update.

Her goal is that most stories will be posted in 72 hours, but if she gets a hundred BDSM stories on Monday she's not going to flood the new stories listing with nothing but BDSM stories on Thursday -- especially since she tries to keep the new stories to about 40-50 each day. Some of those Hundred BDSM stories will get posted Wednesday, Some Thursday, Some Friday, and some will be saved for a week or two to balance out a flood of incest stories or some other category that is suddenly popular on a particular day.

If there is a special contest running, those stories get priority for posting and that can also delay another story being posted that isn't "time critical"

Between smoothing out the flow of stories, insuring a mix of categories, priority handling of contest entries, the daily allotment of 40-50 stories can fill quickly and result in a wide varaince in the time a story takes to get posted.

Staying away from the most popular categories, entering contests, and timing yur submissions for normally slow days are all things you can do to speed up the time your story spends in pending status.

One other point about pending stories -- if you open the story and re-save it after you check up on it, that changes the time stamp for submission and puts it at the end of Laurel's incoming stories queue.

THIS should be in the FAQs.

Yeah, it takes about a week on average for something to be posted. Also, those hits you're seeing are your own - each time a nervous author peeks in on their own story, that counts as a hit.
