I think the movie, "The Story of O" got the branding aspect right as far as a movie goes, only because they used such a harsh thing to convey something much deeper than mere ownership.

In case you have not seen that movie, the woman was branded willingly to show her devotion to her man, although he shared her afterwards with another man, which showed just how true of a gift she was to the shared-man. in that movie, branding had a lot of deep meaning that made everyone watching think about the implications.

In the real world, I see no need for it because a person can be branded...show their devotion that is...in other ways that are far more humane.

I have a tattoo with my first wife's name on me for instance, and while it is just a name, a devoted person might tattoo something more revealing on their skin. I have seen women who have the black of spades tattooed to their ankle indicating to almost everyone...and since it is on their ankle they do not have to be naked to show this...that they like black men outside of their marriage.

Or less intrusively, a person can wear a seamless collar, or an ankle bracelet with varying degrees of wording. I totally agree that to be branded must be voluntary ,just as in my world any form of punishment,,inflicting of receiving pain must be by mutual agreement .However when 2 people are in the BDSM lifestyle it wont take the Dominant partner very long to figure out what the sub really wants .In reality ,at least most relationships its is acutely the sub who controls what happens .
I realize this is a generalization as there will always be the exception .My wife and I have reached the point in our relationship where she is very aware of my desires and consider myself ,indeed very fortunate that at least so far it is working for both of us .
I have not seen the Story of O ,I think I read the book a long time ago ,I did mention it to my wife who no doubt be finding it . Have gone one step further in the branding issue .Have now acquired miniature set of letters designed for applying name or whatever into wood .Since I do dabble in wood working projects ,I can use them for that purpose if nothing else .I did pick up a steel block with deep groves cut into it to bend heavy gauge metal wire or rods if you will .It was an impulse buy ,and used to fashion inch high letters to use for the same purpose as the letters .When I showed them to Pat ,she grew very excited ,but after having thought about it she has lost a lot of the initial enthusiasm .She is going to look a lot further into the whole thing .I am still willing to go through with it but it will of course be up to her to make the final decision

Still pondering weather or not to go ahead ,Pat,that is .As I stated I’m all for it .However her concerns are legitimate ,how deep ,how long does one hold the red hot brand to skin ,use a anesthesiologists ointment of some kind ,after care treatment . I have never been branded, but due to my type of work, I do get burned...a lot. The older burns I have are faded now, but still there.

If you do go through with it, just make sure to keep things clean. Heat will sterilize the branding iron, but you will want to cool the skin with cool water afterwards, and immediately put on a burn cream. This is not the place to save a little money.

I am not trying to scare you, but a burn gets easily infected. I spent 14 days in the intensive care getting over a burn. Had the strongest dose of antibiotic not worked, the next step was to amputate my arm. The surgeon said 50 years ago I would have lost my life over the burn I got.

A tattoo would definitely be safer.

It is a conundrum for sure .I have a hunch Pat wants to go through with it but when I try to open up a dialog on the subject she changed the subject ,don't want to talk about it ,I have in my devious way gone into what websites I can find ,leaving the history as I have been told to do so she can check ,there are not a lot of them ,it seems like branding is almost a taboo subject .None the less I keep looking .
