okay, so there's this horrid buzzing coming from my computer. It's high pitched and extremely painful. Now, <ashamed> I connect to the internet via AOL. When I have AOL on the screen, nothing in front of it, the buzzing stops. if I minimize it or cover it up...the buzzing comes back.

HELP ME!

I agree with Emerald_eyed. Try turning your monitor off while the noise is happening.

High pitched ring noise?
I had that once and gateway changed the refresh rate in my monitor.

That worked.

I wouldnt change it without tech support

my usual monitor is actually hanging out on my floor - it started smoking some time last week, very nasty habit indeed, and now i'm using one about the size of a paperback book.

that made it stop but then when it turned back on the noise started again!

Ok. Let me understand this.

You're current, pocket-size monitor is buzzing loudly (and sending you subtle auditory messages) and you're previous one began smoking (and jumping around on the table).

Hmmm.

GET THE HELL OUT NOW!!!

but my boyfriend took the car for the night! I'm dooooomed!

ps anyone have a reason that when I have AOL open it stops?

I think my boyfriend's still hoping to fix his precious monitor

AOL's colors might be causing the buzz. Not that I dont like AOL's colors <coff>.

To change the refresh rate
1. right click on your desktop
2. go down to "properties"
3. go across to "settings"
4. look for the refresh settings. These are in Hertz.
Changing to a different frequency may get rid of the noise.
