Dr. Frank Walker was not a happy man right now. They had been working for months on there current project. A way to use alpha genes in animals to make people subserviant to a handeler there Alpha. The contract intending to make criminals safe to reintroduce to the public by making them listen to a handler. He stood to his full six feet height. Running his hand through his neat brown hair. Though being in his early forties some grey had begin to show. Though he didn't know it others around the lab would find the little grey distinguished and charming. He was busy reading over the latest trials with a stressed look in his green eyes when his assistant walked in.

Dr. Kara Fenn walked in the lab with the last tray of samples, as she was too small to safely carry two trays at once. She short, dark hair was a mess again and her brown eyes looked up at her supervisor from behind a pair of goggles. The time she'd spent in protective equipment was just about to reach six hours, and it was getting more and more difficult to continue without a break. The whole lab was stressed with the lack of results for their latest research, and she had little hope in this last batch of samples.

"Dr. Walker, these are the last samples from the trial. Should I get started on these now?" she asked from behind her mask, already documenting the vials she set on the worktop. She had to look up, as he was much taller than her, her head barely meeting his shoulder.

Frank looked up. His green eyes a bit tired as he said "yes thank you Dr. Fenn." Not that he had much hope. All there trials had been the same. They had gotten the alpha and omega genes down but they could not get it to adapt to humans. The results were the same they tried to introduce it and human immune systems attacked the gene.

He flipped his notes looking for any clue from the previous batch. He looked at Dr. Fenn with a tired smile. She was very kind around the labs. He couldn't ask for a better assistant. Though some of her features were hidden right now he couldn't deny she had a bit of charm. If he was twenty years younger he might have invited her out for some coffee in better times for the lab. Though now he knew someone like her couldn't be interested in old man like him as some other dates had a used him of.

Kara knew he couldn't see her blush, but she couldn't help but feel so small next to Dr. Walker. He was kind and patient, if a little intense with his work. His green eyes were also nice to look at.

She turned away, already counting the samples and prepping them for the tests, humming softly to herself as she worked quietly next to her supervisor. She never felt pressured or stressed from his expectations--mostly from their results only. She sighed. If this batch didn't work out, she'd be surprised if the project continued. She felt sad that she may lose Dr. Walker as a supervisor if that happened. She hoped he'd consider her again if he ever opened up another new research.

Despite the stress from the lack of results so far he couldn't help but crack a small smile. Hearing Docter Fenn hum while she worked. He turned back to his notes silently pacing through the lab he said " a way for the gene to affect the subject that the body wouldn't react to and attsck."

He paced like this for several moments. Finally he stopped just as Kara was ready to take the samples into the lab for tests. He looked like a spark of inspiration had just hit him. He said "Dr. Fenn do you know why its advised you get a new flu shot each year? Its cause the flu mutates and becomes a new strain that the body doesn't know how to fight. If we made the gene a virus." He went to his computer running some simulations as the data showed a eightypercent rise in viability of the gene bonding successfully if it was a virus.

Kara almost didn't hear her supervisor, as she was examining the samples carefully. But she got the gist of what he said, and turned to him, looking away from the microscope she was using.

"That would help with the unreliable model we're using, but it would mean we have to start again from scratch. Do you think they'll allow us?" she asked doubtfully, knowing that this would mean depleting the funding reserved for testing. She checked the time. Usually, she would love to work with Dr. Walker more but being in her suit was taking a toll, and her hours were over. She should get home for some rest so she could work with him better tomorrow.

"Doctor, would you like to discuss this tomorrow? My shift just ended and I really need to rest." she said a little sadly. She wouldn't be a lot of use to him if she made a mistake because of fatigue.

She was too shy, but she wanted to give him a pat on the back. They were all very tired and nervous about this last batch of samples, and she wanted to offer him comfort--but was afraid if it would be too unprofessional for him. She didn't want to take advantage of his friendly nature after all.

She sighed and made to leave.

Walker thought about that. True if they ran out of funding that was it the project was over maybe there was away to test without any of the funds for the testing phase. He aring her and seeing the fatigue that rivaled his own.

"Go ahead and punch out for the night. I'll finish cataloging these samples and head out myself. See you in the morning Doctor Fenn." Trying again to give her somewhat of a reassuring smile.

He turned back to his notes and swore he felt her aprouch him but then turned and saw her walking out the door.

Turning back to his work more and more the virus angle seemed like it would work if only they could get a true test. It needed to be a virus that was not lethal but changed frequently enough to not allow the human body to react.

He turned towards the sample of the alpha gene. They needed results if they were gonna get approval to keep working. They needed a viable sample that could bond to human dna. He took a sample of the flu the lab had from storage. Applying the gene with the gene sequencers in the lab. Once his modified flu virus was done he took some of his blood and mixed it with the new virus. Taking the makeshift sample he ran it under a microscope seeing the virus bonding effectivly to the hosts dna the bodies immune cells not knowing how to combat this strain.

He smiled a honest genuine smile for the first time in the last MONTH! Saving the results he moved to put away the control sample without his dna and dropped it cursing as it shattered. He picked it up pricking his finger.

Cursing he made his way to the sanitation equipment. Cleaning the wound. Unaware that the virus was already in his system begining to infect and replicate in his cells. He sanitized and cleaned the rest of the floor where the sample fell. Took the sample with his dna that showed they had results and put it in storage.

Looking at the time he saw it was already 4am! He sighed and said 'guess i'm sleeping in the lab again.' Placing the new finding in a file on the desk for Fenn to go over when she arrived he sat in his chair leaned his head on his desk as he let sleep take him.

Kara slept fitfully that night, and attributed the vaguely sexual dreams and anxiety to their teetering-towards-failure research results. That could have been the reason she decided to wear her favorite perfume that day, but she wouldn't be able to tell you that after what happened in the lab.

Dr. Fenn made her way into their lab, hoping that the last batch of samples would yield even a little variation, and it would justify further study. She knew this sort of thinking was a bit skewed when it came to the scientific process, but she had hoped to at least spend a few more weeks with Dr. Walker, if she were being honest.

She would even go as far to say that she hoped for better results, just for his sake. While her paycheck was on the line for sure, her supervisor had staked his name on this project--he would have to take the hit to his reputation if this went completely south without even any sort of unexpected results.

She entered the lab, her short hair covered by a cap and her face hidden by a mask and goggles. When she heard a low snore in the staff lounge she thought it was just the refrigeration system. But it got louder, and it sounded like someone very tired was sleeping.

She peeked at the couch and found a disheveled and exhausted-looking Dr. Walker snoring away. Her heart fell a bit, and she found him incredibly adorable. Too bad she was already in gloves and mask, and it was bad to touch him and get the equipment contaminated. He must have spent the entire evening here, and just decided to sleep. Why the man wouldn't offset his hours was a mystery to her.

She wished she had a blanket to cover him with, but there was none of the sort in the lounge so she went to dim the lights and walked quietly to the lab, and began to look at the file he had left for her and felt the need to stick around for.

She'd just make him some coffee when he woke up. It would be such a waste of his hard work if she didn't get to this immediately.

The file showed that doctor Walker got the gene to successfully bond with a modified strain of the flu virus and upon doing so it was able to do its job and bond to human dna without the bodies immune system attacking the new gene. Including the sample that had shown successful bonding that was now in the storage to show results at the next board meeting.

Frank eventually woke up walking into the lab stretching with a bit more confidence in his body language today. For some reason he was on a particular high note as he held himself hi. He said "good morning Doctor Fenn I think were back in business." His tired expression lessened as he seemed to have a bit of cockiness to his personality this morning. Though that could of just been his good mood from some actual results this morning.

Passing her he smelled her perfume and stood next to her as he got some a equipment on himself to check last nights sample again. He said "you smell good today Doctor Fenn. New perfume?" It wasn't just her his natural musk would of smelled better to Fenn today more rugged and manly.

Kara didn't even hear Dr. Walker come in, she was too absorbed in what looked like a breakthrough with their work. Her supervisor was brilliant! With these results, the project was still viable, and they could continue testing and refining their documentation. She almost didn't hear the man approach, or his comment on her perfume, too excited to speak to him about what work he did the night before.

"Doctor--!" she turned around and found him entirely too close to her, in the actual act of sniffing the air around her. He looked disheveled but handsome, even if he was wearing the same thing he wore when she left yesterday.

Kara felt very shy, and almost retreated, and she blushed as she refused to meet his eyes, " Do--Doctor Walker! I...yes...I have a new perfume...I...."

She was at a loss for words, and averted her eyes, searching for something to say after such a forward statement, when they had never spoken casually about anything in all the months that they worked together.

Frank wasn't sure why but Dr. Fenn was cute when she was stamering and refusing to look him in the eye. He gently cupped her chin and tilted her head to look him in his green eyes as he smiled and said "it isn't polite to look away from the person your having a discussion with Doctor Fenn." His proximity showing just how tall he was compared to her. His body almost hovering over hers in away confining as much as it was comforting like he could shield her from the world.

He gently released her chin and said "it smells good If I was twenty years younger. I would of begged a girl wearing perfume like that for dinner. Though pushing his fourties i'm too old for someone to be interested in me like that now." Though he had a bit more confidence some of the old Walker's dougts were still there like he was too old for someone like Fenn to show interest in him.

He gently turned her back to the file. His chest almost touching her back as he guided her hand to turn each page. Pointing out the key things he found out and replicated last night. He said "I think with these results we can save the project dont you Doctor?" His breath teasing her ears and neck from how close he was.

Behind her goggles, Kara's pupils dilated as Dr. Walker's voice washed over her and he tilted her head up. Her breath caught, and she looked up at him, wondering why this man was suddenly so close and speaking to her so familiarly. She didn't mind it at all--but why was he so different?

Kara frowned a bit at Dr. Walker. While he was being very forward, and she felt a blush steal her features, she now looked over him with a more critical eye. "If you were younger, you say, Doctor?" She stood up and reached out to touch his face, looking to see if the personality shift was brought about by fatigue--or something worse.

She felt nervous when he turned the file over behind her, his breath tickling her ear. He felt so tall, so big, and so warm. She suppressed the urge to lean back against him. He was entirely too close, and she was letting him. His breath fanned across her cheek and she could not understand the words on the file, with him being right behind her.

"I..yes, I think we can....We should get to work.." she trailed off, as their breaths mingled.

Even Doctor Walker wasn't sure where this new confidence was coming from. Why shouldnt he be confident though he was a lead doctor great shape for his age. He said "Id love to get to work..." the double meaning clear.

They continued to work though Frank was a lot more hands on with Doctor Fenn. Looming over her getting as close as possible to check her work. Occasionally his hand resting on her hip.

Every time he did this she continued to smell his manly scent. Feel his toned arms around her.

It was almost the end of the day. Fenn had removed her PPE as they were no longer in the sterile lab environment. Walker placed his hand on the wall next to her he said "you did good Doctor Fenn you deserve a reward." Leaning in he almsot kissed her. His lips inches from hers as there breaths mingled. He stopped himself though. This was his subordinate this was not professional. Much to his own dismay he retreated away and said "have a good night Dr. Fenn. See you tomorrow."

The day was decidedly odd. Exhilarating but very odd. Dr. Walker must have been in an incredibly good mood about the research to be completely out of character. Gone was the mild-mannered, serious, professional supervisor.

He was replaced with a confident, suave, utterly handsy man that would not move out of her personal space. As the day went on, he would have tucked her hair behind her ear, held her waist and hip, guided her hand like a child's and even tried to kiss her. What was going on?!

She would be lying if she did not enjoy the attentions. She almost kissed him back. While men liked to fetishize her for her small stature and elfin face, she did not care of dating or sex. Her work was important, and unless someone could understand what she wanted to do for the better part of her day and read about when got home, there would be no connection.

But with Dr. Walker, that was not a problem. The problem now was, he was acting too different. Something changed last night and it wasn't just the test results.

She narrowed her eyes, then reached out her hand and pulled him down, her face inches from hers and looked at his pupils. Dilated. His breath was short. She took a device from her coat and attached it to his finger. High pulse and low oxygen.

He was sick, and she had a sinking feeling she knew what it was. He had never left the lab--the logs showed he stayed all night. There was only one pathogen in this lab that could work this fast, and he had just created it last night.

And now his vitals said he was sick. She had been exposed to him all day. They were entirely too close. Great. Figures the only guy ever to show interest in her did it because he was infected.

"We have to quarantine. Dr. Walker. You've been exposed. And I'll most probably manifest symptoms tomorrow. My place or yours?"

She sighed, feeling a bit heartbroken--okay, a lot heartbroken. But that was irrelevant. They were in real medical trouble. Her heartache could wait for when they were in the clear.

Frank realized she was right. He ran his hand through his hair and said "shit your right. I forgot do to the fatigue but last knight one of the samples broke on the floor. I thought I had it sanitized and clean but I still must of been infected by the knick on my finger."

Though the confidence was still there he said "figures my confidence must come from the alpha gene. I knew I wasn't good enough on my own to make you blush like that I'm too old. Its probably only going to get worse."

He said "well go to my place. I'm the superior its my duty to take care of you. I'll never not take care of those beneath me. In any! Way." The last bit having a flirty tone to it.

As much as he wanted to tear off Dr Fenns clothes and have his way with her he knew she was right. She was now exposed to and he had to be dominate and take charge of her safety. He said sternly "come on we will get clothes from your place then lock ourselves in mine its pretty remote in the good part of town. No one for miles."

"Dr. Walker!" already, she was slightly panicking, trying to catalog symptoms she knew she would not be able to objectively see. What a situation.

She heard him still hit on her, and she was slightly interested, though she couldn't tell if it were because of the disease or natural attraction. "This is not the...The time to discuss things like that! We should be quarantining and documenting!"

It was already difficult to speak up against him, and she thought that perhaps the infection had progressed that much.

His order somehow felt like blocks were falling into place inside her head, and she vowed to document how a submissive would feel with this virus when they got to his place. She followed him out of the lab.

Frank said "we need to go before it spreads." Taking her arm firmly but gently. Escorting her out the building to his car like a gentlemen. Some of the alpha confidence coming back to his stride.

He opened the door for her and said "get in." Though it wasn't mean or harsh. She could tell it was a order. Walker was taking charge of there safety. Like a leader or a alpha should."

He drove her to her place. Going with her as she packed her things. When they got to his home they pulled into the gated property to a large isolated house on a hill. He said "plenty of room. Don't worry Dr Fenn ill take care of all your needs"

Once again escorting her inside with his take charge attitude. He placed her things on the floor and said "tell me what you need doctor. I'm feeling dinner first." Once again more of a statement than a question. In his mind this was right. He was ber superior it was his duty to take charge be the alpha. Make all the hard decisions for her as her superior. His arm moving forward from hers to her waist.

Kara nodded absently, feeling actual pleasure at his touch, and tried to hold on to some semblance of control and documentation for the infection. While things were beginning to feel like the start of a romance novel, she had to remind herself that this was an infection, and she was sick. What he was saying and feeling weren't his actual sentiments--he didn't want her that way.

She kept her hands on her lap the whole drive there, and followed him, though it was truly hard to tell if this was because of the virus or because she really was attracted to him.

She collected enough clothes in a suitcase for the indefinite stay, which they would have to discuss eventually. She let him lead her into his house, where she finally noticed what taste he had and could probably see a different side to her supervisor, barring the virus mutating him into an alpha.

Frank smiled and said "dinner then." He got to work fixing them some salman and fresh vegetables. Its part of the reason he looked so good despite his age. His home was realtivly tame despite its remote location and gated fence. No super expensive art or decadences. It was cozy if large.

He sat them down pulling Dr. Fenn's chair out for her and pushing it forward after she sat down draping a napkin over her lap for her. Sitting down to eat himself he poured them both some wine to go with the salmon.

He said "I need to decide our plan....no..no we do. WE have no idea how long these symptoms will last or if they get worse. How do you feel Dr. Fenn still yourself?"
