This is either geared toward Newbie to Newbie, or perhaps it may bring back some awkward and funny memories of your own—that you may or may not want to share…
Reflections of a Forum Virgin…
Transition from Chat (and that experience)—I found the Forum after a frustrating first weekend on Lit Chat (as many of you have commented upon) It was like watching stop-motion photography, people checking in and out--rapidly, and then some seemingly staying for a long time… I found myself watching a lot of non-action…and wondering ”are they in private chats”? I had received a few polite, “I’m busy” but mostly dead silence to the “whisper reach-out messages”, (not entirely unlike what I have experience from PM’s…).
One of the differences is the request for a Private Chat—either declined (almost immediately), or an instant private room materializes with my new chat partner ready to converse… Oh, and the “profiles” are extremely limited, with no chance to read any historical posts, so no way to see if a good fit… And since I am inexperienced with RP, I was probably a frustrating partner for the few I engaged with…except one…and oh, I thought I had found my sexual sole mate… (PM me if you are interested in that story…). Then, there was the “couple” that I actively engaged with, only to find out the wife was actually out of town…just as he and I began the discussion about being bi-curious… Can you say awkward, boys and girls? But, we got through it…and actually had an enjoyable conversation…but no RP…
Forum, a bit imposing, many forums actually, topics somewhat appear to overlap (even trying to figure out where to post this one was not easy, so I may be trying a couple of places…). Pictures are throughout, surveys throughout (especially anal, one that always garners a lot of staying power…), even some of my more “general” interests were in GLBT…
Online…does not translate into PM response – Just because someone is online, even in the early morning hours…and you send a PM, don’t expect an immediate response…or even an eventual response (especially, if you are a male PM’ing a female).
Some actual PM responses, encouraging – that said, I do have some active dialogues going on, and hopefully this thread may prompt some solicitations, rather than only responses to-date.
Profiles – Virgins like me, Gurus--imposing (thousands of posts…) – threads started, threads responded, dates…interests; narrative --quite informative to non-existent (mine will be developing for awhile…). I realized I need to respond to more threads (and looking forward to losing my Virgin status!!), otherwise there is a quite incomplete view of who I am, what I am interested in, and identifying if I am sufficiently interesting to PM…or respond to my PM.
Pictures – Alluring Mature…that is absolutely HOT! The With and Without clothing pictures, same pose, side by side…of some beautiful, beautiful, beautiful women!! Pictures throughout…and very hot!! And some where you least expect them! I especially love the ones that “reference” a picture, but “I” can’t find it, only to have it pop up a few responses, or pages, later—if full color, not the embedded .jpeg.
RP – finally got around to reading the rules... Some quite amusing. Highly recommend it. I am finding reading Lit is much less challenging than writing it…in real time…consistently!! And, as I mentioned, I am a frustrating partner…but, hey, I “am” a Virgin…
Online…After and “exhausting?” review of the threads that are of interest, I have even found myself looking over the list of names that are online. By far, the greater majority names appear to be male; say 80/20 (90/10?), then if I find a name that is likely female, I begin looking at profiles, Newbies? Vs Experienced? Vs preferences… often further limiting the likelihood that they will respond to my PM… the population keeps shrinking…
Observation… I have a seen a number of “good luck” posts by other males to threads such as this one. Clearly, the ladies are in charge! I have even seen numerous responses about “your inbox is sure going to fill up soon!”…I fear mine will soon fill up too, with unanswered outbox PM’s…
Ladies? Bail me out here…
Actually “I have met some great people” even in such a short time, only hope to keep the dialogues going…
