I see Bernie Ebbers has been convicted.

I imagine that won't last. An appeal is in the making and if all else fails, the current administration is very friendly to the business community.

And what Mr. Ebbers did wasn't that bad. $11 billion in fraud doesn't really amount to much, in the big picture.

It's not like he was born in the Middle East, or a member of a subversive movement dedicated to justice for the American aboriginal peoples, or something really evil.

Sorry folks. Early in the morning. I'm cynical first thing n the morning.

Oh, you are allowed cynicism first thing in the morning, RG. Um, here, have another coffee, maybe. :|

EDIT TO ADD: Too late, I drank it. :)

Morning Charely. Whatcha doin' up so early?

Coffee's good. Thenk yew.

I'm always up early. I cannot sleep in even the smallest amount of light, and since the sun is rising at 5:30 - 6 these days . . .

Ah.

My sleep patterns have become syncopated recently. Can only sleep six hours at night. Have to make up the difference with a nap.

Sigh.

Personally, I hope he spends a good long stretch in the pokey.

Having spent most of my adult life trying to run a small business (only 5 employees) on the up and up and at times worry about getting each month's bills paid, the kind of crap he pulled really pisses me off.

Really glad that the jury didn't buy the ignorance gambit and his attempt to blame everything on Scott Sullivan.

I think you may rest easy on this one RG.

1. He is no longer in a position to donate vast sums to the GOP.

2. The people he shafted are investors, those investors are most likely to a large degree republicans. And they have a considerably larger number of votes than Mr. Ebbers.

3. G.W., might be willing to pardonhim, but I doubt his handlers will let him. They aren't just concerned with G.W. pandering to big bussiness, they want the next president to be the same kind of bitch. to do that, they need his successor to be republican and they probably aren't willing to alienate that big a block of voters.

But on the last day of his administration, with the votes already counted...

"A cynic smells flowers, and looks around expecting to see himself lying in a coffin."

Latest word I get from the Fundie camp in the heart of dixie is that John McCain and Rudy Guiliani are making strong pitches but neither has a chance.

McCain is too "crazy."

Translation: McCain is too liberal.

"You should stand close to him sometime and look into his eyes. It's scary."

Translation: McCain is already getting the same dirty whisper campaign he got in 2000 when he became a threat to GWB. He is brain damaged from being a POW, his wife is on drugs, running around, driving him crazy, etc.

Guiliani was a shooting star. He will have no legs.

Translation: His 9-11 popularity has faded and he is carrying too much baggage with the marriage, etc., plus he has some liberal views.

"What we must have is a southern governor. Senators and congressmen traditionally lose."

Translation: Jeb Bush

Those are fairly accurate quotes from a GOP insider.

Have you tried going inside?

I'm the same, up between 5 and 6 most mornings.
