I had been pretty nervous about this. Last week I had been chosen out of some two hundred students in my school to participate in a foreign exchange program. For the first month, this girl was supposed to come here and live with me and my family (which consisted just of my father and mother), then for the second month, I would go to Japan and live with her family.

I was only 18 years old, a senior and high school, she was 18 as well, I was told. She would go to my high school and get regular treatment like any normal student, and everything. The same would occur for me once I went over there.

Obviously she spoke English -- she had to in order to be eligible to enter the program. I myself did speak Japanese, I've been fascinated with their culture ever since I was little and pretty much taught myself the language over the past eight years of my life.

I was waiting for her at the airport along with Miss June, the vice-principal of our high school. She was in her late 20s and was really attractive, and I usually couldn't take my eyes off of her beautiful body. My eyes weren't focused on her at the moment though -- I was looking around the airport nervously as the flight this girl was supposed to be on from Japan had just arrived. Miss June held up a sign that read her name, "Mai." That's all she apparently asked to be put on the sign when she spoke with our school, apparently, she preferred being called that.

(OOC: The part of Miss June has been taken, but someone needs to play Mai... for now, I don't think any other characters are needed. However, if you wanna get in on this, speak up and I'm sure there'll be a part you could take on.)

OOC: I'm not really that qualified to play this part, but to get you started, I'll play Mai for now. If someone comes along that would like this part, I'll glady step aside. Just click on the email below and let me know.....

Mai

The plane ride was long and tiresome. Mai tried to doze from time to time, with little luck. It was her first time out of her home country, and was lucky her strict parents allowed her this opportunity. Her school advisors had talked them into it, as she had such excelling marks.

(OOC: Where are we in the US?)

IC:

She became alert as the voice over the plane's intercom began announcing their arrival. This was a dream come true. To live in America, and learn a foriegn culture. Her heartbeat sped up, as she pondered what her American family would be like. Her english was good, but she feared ridicule. In her country, her classmates would laugh at her when she tried to practice it. Only her very best friend understood. Oh, how she was going to miss her. Fear gripped her, as she thought about not being able to talk to Obera.

"Please put your tray up, and upright your seat, ma'am." A female stewardess addressed her.

"Oh, I am sorry." Mai answered with her thick accent, quickly obeying the request. Her long dark hair fell into her face, as she leaned forward adjusting her belongings on the floor.

The plane finally landed, after what seemed such a long time of anticipation. Even after they were on the ground, she thought they would never stop. Her patience was thin from the long hours of traveling.

"At least you are not traveling for months." She says to herself in Japanese under her breath. The business man sitting next to her barely glanced at her, and answered:

"Your first time traveling?" He said in Japanese. He was American, but they had chatted slightly over the last several hours. He spoke fluent Japanese, and had tried to rest her mind at ease.

"Yes, it is the first time out of my country." She answered in English. She wanted to get used to the feel of the strange languange on her tongue.

"Oh, a beautiful girl like you will do just fine in America. The boys will be crazy about you, I told you already. Sorry I can't tell you more." He gave her a kindly look.

"Yes, sir." She replied.

As the passengers began deboarding, her heart finally slowed. Even that took so long, she'd forgotten her anxiety. As she entered the airport, she saw a large sign with her name "Mai" waving in the crowd. Her heart sped up again as she approached the boy and young woman who bore it.

I saw her, or at least who I believed was her. It had to be, she fit the characteristics described to me, and she was staring right at me and Miss June, approaching us.

I turned to Miss June, and whispered under my breath. "That must be her."

I smiled towards the Mai as she approached us, I was amazed by how beautiful she was. Her hair, her eyes, her smile, everything about her seemed so perfect to me.

I greeted her, with a simple "hello."

Miss June:

'Yea, it should be her,' I said.

I watched as she started towards us, something deep within me told me that I was attracted to her. Still, she was only 18. She reminded me of a former lover of mine - a Japanese lady. It was one of my darkest secrets.

Turning to creepy, I urged him to go ahead and greet her first; first impressions do count alot.

(OOC: Ooops, I never gave myself a name... heh. Let's make it Johnny. As for my signature, it's a quote from a movie... no offense meant to anyone. I really don't see any reason to change it... there's worse on this board then my innocent little Evil Dead quote.)

"Hello.....you must be Johnny?" Mai says to the young man before her. "I am pleased to meet you."

She stands nervously fidgeting her fingers against her skirt. Her long dark hair frames her face, as she looks down awkardly. Glancing at Miss June, her face lights up.

"You must be the counselor from school." She suddenly wonders if she has chosen the correct english word for the woman's title, and fears harsh admonishment from her...as she is accustomed to.

Johnny

"Hello.....you must be Johnny? I am pleased to meet you."

I can tell just how nervous Mai is, far more nervous then I am. This sort of cools me down, makes me a bit less nervous. She's really attractive and seems like a very nice girl, I was afraid I'd get some freaky nerd or something along those lines.

"You must be the counselor from school."

She looked up at Miss June, and I smile at her once again. "Yeah, that's Miss June... she's the vice princepal."

"Oh....." Mai sez. "What is 'vice princepal?"

Mai looks at Johnny with anticipation.

Miss June:

Feeling the need to calm some nerves, I interrupted briefly.

'Vice-principal means I'm second in charge; I do counsel students from time to time, so you were not totally wrong. Don't worry about it.' I flashed a smile at her.

'Nice to meet you,' I said, extending my hand.

Ah, yes. Americans 'shake' hands in greeting, Mai thinks. She slowly raised her hand in response to the woman's greeting.

"pleased to meet you."

Miss June:

'Now that we're done with the introductions, Johnny would you like to show Mai around the school? Or do you want to bring her around town first?' I asked.

Miss June asked where we should go, and Mai turned towards me.

"Well, we can go to school early tomorrow... I can show her the school then. Right now, the first thing we should do is stop by my house, so she can drop off her bags and get settled in. I suppose you could stay over for a short while at my house, Miss, and then when Mai is ready, we could go show her around?"

Miss June:

'I'll leave once everything is settled in, and after I've seen to it that the both of you would get along fine. Mai is everything ok?'

"Oh, yes, Miss June...that would be OK....I am very weary from my traveling, and would like very much for a comfortable bed."

Miss June:

'The two of you wait outside; I'm going to get my car. Get to know one another better.' I said, before turning to leave for the carpark.

Johnny

Miss June left Mai and myself alone as she went to get her car. I turned towards Mai, who was looking down.

"Hey, why the sad face? You don't have to be nervous, everything is gonna turn out all right, I'll make sure."

Mai looked at me and smiled, and as far as I knew, it was the first time I noticed she'd smiled since getting off the plane.

"You've got a beautiful smile... you're a very attractive girl, but I'm sure you've been told that so many times..."

Mai

Mai watched Miss June walk off before turning her eyes downward.

"Hey, why the sad face? You don't have to be nervous, everything is gonna turn out all right, I'll make sure." Johnny said, breaking the awkward silence. Mai slowly raised her head until she was looking into Johnny's deep (color? blue, green, ?) eyes. Her dark eyes were moist, as though she were ready to cry.

"It is not that I am sad. It is rather the opposite. I am lucky my strict parents allowed me this opportunity. Now that I am here, it feels so, oh, how do I say..... ah unreal..as though if I pinch myself, I will wake up." She hoped her English were clear enough for him to understand. Not having used the languange much to communicate her feelings, it felt cumbersome on her tongue. His eyes told her he understood her words, and that made her smile.

"You've got a beautiful smile... you're a very attractive girl, but I'm sure you've been told that so many times..."

"Thank you." His remark made her blush, and she caught herself trying to look down again. She forced herself to keep her head up, but averted her eyes.

"I'm sorry, in my country a woman does not gaze into the eyes of men for long periods of time. It will take me some time to grow accustomed to America's customs." She explained. "And my classmates would tease me....oh, I'm not sure of your correct term, but of my brains."

She said as she pointed to her head. She hoped he understood that she meant her intelligence, but couldn't put her finger on the right words.

"Thank you."

Mai blushed upon recieving my complment, and looked down again. "I'm sorry, in my country a woman does not gaze into the eyes of men for long periods of time. It will take me some time to grow accustomed to America's customs. And my classmates would tease me....oh, I'm not sure of your correct term, but of my brains."

She pointed to her head, but I already knew what she meant.

"You won't have to worry about that here, I wouldn't allow anything like that to happen to you. Everything will be fine, I'll take good care of you."

I smiled at Mai again and she looked up for a second.

"You trust me, don't you?"

(OOC: Guess I never described the character enough... let's say 5'10, 160 lbs, blue eyes, dirty blonde hair. An attractive face, and you can tell he stays in shape... he's not a musclehead though.)

"You won't have to worry about that here, I wouldn't allow anything like that to happen to you. Everything will be fine, I'll take good care of you."

Nervously awaiting Miss June's return, Mai shivers slightly at his words. Taking care in her country means control. She hoped that was not what he meant.

"You trust me, don't you?"

Trust. Another deception of her country. Women trusted only that their men controlled them. She understood this to be not so true of American culture, so she did not take his words at her own cultures meaning. The inner turmoil of her understanding must have showed. She was not sure how to respond.

"Trust? I'm sorry, I do not know that meaning." She simply stated, trying to look as confused as she could.

OOC: Mai is slight. standing a barely 5 ft. Long black hair. very Black eyes. Petite. 4 size shoe. (these things are important for her)

"Trust? I'm sorry, I do not know that meaning."

I looked at Mai and wondered why she didn't know such a simple word, but I shrugged it off. She can't possibly know the language perfectly, having lived elsewhere while learning it. I always thought that to fully learn something, you have to be around people who know it well.

"I mean... you believe me, right? That's just what I mean -- if you believe that I will look out for you while you're here, and take care of you."

Once again, I smiled, trying to make Mai as comfortable as I possibly could.

Miss June:

I pulled up at the driveway, and honked twice.

OOC: Hope I'm not interrupting anything interesting.

Relieved at the sound of Miss June's car horn, I picked up my baggage and began to exit the terminal. (I'm assuming we went and got my bags). It was cumberson, and difficult, but was relieved when Johnny stopped to help. (I'm assuming again, sorry, Johnny...that you would help)(I hate assuming, but we left these details out.)
