Hiya, has anyone here read :
The Ages of Lulu by Almudena Grandes ?
If not, then i would strongly recommend it. Gorgeous it is!
Its written from the subside, similarly to Story of O, but set in today and written in todays language.
Ive finished it, and am now re-reading.

So if any of you have read this, and can recommend similar, please leave the title and author here so i can get another book before the spine of this paperback falls apart completely.

If you've never read the original novella, "9+1/2 Weeks", do. The movie version, even the Dir.'s cut, are pale and vanilla by comparison.

ive not even seen the film, but i can grab the book easily enough. cheers!

I like Carries Story and Safe Word...kind of a modern day O if O were a smartass Berkely lit PhD.

I also enjoyed...

"The Slave" by Sarah Adamson, though that one's virtually pure D/s porn.

I own a novel called "Topping from Below" which is a murder mystery that I have not read. Anyone read it? Thumbs up or down?

I actualy liked it quite a bit. Not to give away any spoliers, but the BDSM in conjunction with the drama of the plot really made it a good read.

I especially liked the way the author dealt with the topic of consent and "informed consent" in particular.

I'd give it a thumbs up. Although I admit I have never reread it, and I usually reread GOOD books at least once.

Thanks, Cait!

Oh, and of course, there's Anne Rice. No, I'm not talking about that Beauty trash. (Fun trash, admittedly, but trash none the less...) Rather, Exit to Eden. Again- if you've seen the movie, disregard that altogether, as it bears only the slightest distant distant cousin resemblance to the book. (Movie made the lead character a supporting role, and invented new leads that were comic rubes. Ew.)

I read a book last year by Kathleen E Woodiwiss called "The Flame and The Flower."

At the time I had never heard of d/s, but thinking back, it does have a lot of references to it. It's set back in the turn of the 19th century in both England and Charleston, wv. There really is a lot in the story about domination and submission, although the term is never mentioned.

Under the: tried real hard as a novel and ended up as a stroke book we have..

Murder at Roissy, by John Warren.

I like murder mysteries. It needed more plot development, more character development, and more details in between the sex scenes. Now, most of the sex secenes were good, (great actually), but I needed a little more bang for my buck. At 14.95, I wouldn't buy it again, so look for it at a used store or something

I noticed while looking for "The Slave", there are three other books in this series. Have you read those by chance? The others are called: "The Marketplace", "The Trainer" and "The Academy".

They all look so good, and I'm always looking for some good reading!!

We were talking about this in another group. There are lots of great D/s authors.

Johanna Lindsey. In one of her books she even has a pain slut. But a great one to check out is Warrior Woman. It's about a woman who discovers this planet of warriors, and ends up becoming 'owned' by their shodan (king). It's a great book.

Christine Feehan - vampires, need I say more? LOL Actually she doesn't only do vamps. She also does jaguar's (kinda like a were-jaguar, but not quite), and humans with special gifts.

Bertrice Small - harems :D Normally her characters are stolen made to be sex slaves. Very good books.

Dara Joy - to explain her story's would ruin the story, but suffice to say that her characters are very dom (in all but one book). Start with Knight of a Trillion Stars (that's the first), but my favorite is the sequal, Rejar.

I think that's it. If i think of anyone else, I'll put it up.

Genre romance artists have been writing around the edges of BDSM for ages. Only in the last five years or so has it actually become not only acceptable but trendy to write about this in an acknowledged and specific way --- heroes and heroines who willingly and often lovingly participate in recognizable "scenes". Modern books have added consent to the mix which is certainly more correct but the older books , what I like to call "BODOR" (Bad Old Days Of Romance), were well aware of the titillation factor of power discrepencies. It's as much a part of the genre as the happily ever after.

In the 70's it was de rigeur for the heroine to be raped by at least one unsavory individual --- pirates, war deserters, prison guards, unsavory neighbors, step-brothers and cousins. Stripped, tied up, flogged, enslaved, gang-raped, prostituted, passed around as gabling debts, forcibly impregnated.

Rosemary Rogers was particularly good at these. In her book The Wanton the heroine is committed to an asylum by her step brother where she is kept as his sexual slave, whipped, prostituted and generally mistreated until he breaks her down enough that she signs over her body and soul to him as her legal guardian to be obeyed without question under penalty of being remanded to the custody of the Institution.

Horribly written for the most part but the sex is hot. Even the hero rapes her more often than not. Rogers' heros are the typical alpha males and a ripe lot of bastards, but they're sexually compelling.

Not that I'm encouraging anyone to become a boddice ripper junkie, but it's definitely where I developed most of my sexual fantasies.

Thanks for the Book Tips

I must admit Beatrice Small does write wonderfully but I would say her book

LOVE SLAVE is by far the best D/s I have read by her and I have read all her books

Oh, I agree. On the other hand, I've only read a couple of her books so far. I was only recently turned on to her by an e-friend. But that's the first I read, and none have been as good.

I posted this in the other thread, but Jaid Black has a new book out called One Dark Night that has BDSM as a central part of the plot.

Ellora's Cave is an e-book publishing company that is now getting into paperbacks. They have Capture/Bondage as a genre and several of them are BDSM. www.ellorascave.com . Lora Leigh has an entire series in the BDSM section, the one i read so far was excellent.

a Mistress Dream book

I am reading a book now that has me smiling and remembering the first time I Dominated a man :D

I love it

Its called The Top of Her Game by Emma Holly

I was looking at some of the titles that all of you mentioned.

I hate to advertise, I just wanted to say that if any of you are looking to buy these, check out Overstock.com... I always forget to check, but they have all the titles that I typed in from this thread (I didn't try all of them) It's not such a big deal with Paperbacks, still cheaper, but it's really a big difference on hardcovers and trade paper.

I just ordered about $70 in books from BN.com... would have cost me $40 on Overstock.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am having some shipped to my wife.
