This is a quiet little place, you know the kind of place, everyone has a place like this in mind. Dark leather chairs that you just seem to sink into forever with an ottoman that is set at just the perfect angle, and an ash tray and drink table right at your elbow. Dim lights. Smoke. The kind of place you can go to for conversation, and to maybe lose yourself in the newspaper, or talk with someone about current events. Drop in for lunch of a good steak sandwich and a beer. That is in the afternoon. At night it is an entirely different place, full of laughter, and entirely too many hormones. No, this is not a men's club, but a ladies club, and not one where you go to talk about your kids or trade the latest casserole recipe.

This is a thread, not an OOC, and all the women on Lit are welcome to join in at will. Come in and play, flirt with each other, get to know each other, have fun. We may upon occasion invite men to join us here, but this will always be discussed within the thread before it happens.

The rules:

As stated above, there will be no men allowed within the confines of this establishment without previous invitation, violators will be punished with severe bikini waxing.

All members of the thread will be required to play nice and not fight.

Celeste Lord Corrigan

I walked in wearing a man's tuxedo, Marlene Dietrich in Morocco, sans the top hat, tie, and shoes. I wore my crisp white shirt undone almost to indecency. A pearl choker clung to my neck. The night had been hard, used me up and spit me out and I was in the mood for a dry martini. This quiet little place seemed just the ticket for a girl who had been done wrong by a man.

Busy pouring over the books in my office, I heard someone walk into the bar. Knowing that the bar tender was out getting a few supplies we had run short of, I walked out into the bar to see if there was anything I could do for the first customer of the night.

Welcome to Eve's. How can I help you?

I would love a martini, extra dry. Is this place new? I hadn't noticed it before.

I extended my hand to the woman I assumed was the proprietess.

The name's Celeste, by the way. Celeste Lord Corrigan.

Reaching into the jacket's pocket, I pulled out a silver cigarette case and selected a ciggy. Tamping it's end on the case, I asked...

You wouldn't happen to have a light, would you?

Smiling at the woman as I shook her hand, I reached into my pocket with my other hand and pulled out a chunky zippo, one with a Siamese dancing girl in relief upon the front of it. I had liberated it from my ex-husband just before he moved all of his things out of the house, moving on to his next victim. Lighting it, I held it up for her as I answered.

Yes, it is new. I opened it with the first installment of my settlement. A little revenge upon my husband. See, he would always escape to his "club", knowing I couldn't follow him to see if he were really there. I vowed that when I could, I would make a place just like that for women. I laugh softly. It is identical to the way he discribed his little haven, right down to the leather club chairs.

Walking behind the bar, I assemble the tools and ingredients necessary for the drink Celeste had requested.

I'm not the usual bartender, but I do know how to make a mean martini. My dad would have me make them for him as a kid. It amused him.

As I finish mixing the drink, I pour it into a glass, along with an olive, and hand it across the bar to her.

I draped myself around a barstool and picked up the drink.

A real treasure from what I can see. The place reeks of class. It's a pleasure to meet a woman who's figured out how to triumph over that adversity we call the male race. I, for one, applaud you, Madame.

Spearing an olive with a toothpick, I take a bite of the tender morsal.

Taking in the outfit the woman was wearing, I smile graciously at the obviously genuine compliment. I myself am wearing a rather conservative burgandy light wool skirt and a cream silk blouse. A garnet and marcasite pendant hangs from a silver chain at my throat.

Thank you for the compliment. It is quiet here right now, but there have been one or two evenings when things got a bit rowdy. *smile* I don't mind the chaos. I actually find it relaxing at times to just let go and shake out my hair.

With that, I run my left hand, now bare of ring, through my short black hair.

Downing the rest of my martini and setting the glass on the bar.

Well, my dear, you do make a mean martini. I'd like to come back when the place is hoppin' and I look a tad more presentable. It's been one hellava night and I need to put it to rest. Rest assured, I will be back. And always in black.

Reaching into my coat's pocket once again, I place a twenty on the bar next to the glass.

Keep the change, angel.

Smiling, I watch as Celeste begins to walk to the door.

Please do come back soon. You would be a shining jewel here.

Walking over to the register, I make the change, and then put the remaining money in Susie's tip jar. My shark had been a better shark than the ex's, and I had no money worries. Susie, though, had two little mouthes to feed, so any time I could slip a little extra to her without her knowing, I did so. She was a very proud woman, and would not take kindly to what she would see as handouts.

OOC

BTW, the job of Susie is open for anyone who would like the job.

The cold driving rains have flooded the roads when i see my destination. Coming to a stop i look at the outside of the building…there is nothing spectacular about the outer shell… there is a discreet sign…. most would never give it a second look…Eve’s Paradise…Where knowledge is Power. What would Eve had seen as paradise? I look to the card in my hand i looked up. The address is right…this is it. i pull over to the curb…

Stepping from the car, i walk slowly to the door… the elements have no effect on me…because i am one with this storm…. wild and free in this time and place… as i reach the doors i open it effortlessly… it is totally soundless… stepping into the room, i look to the bar

Walking to it, dropping my keys, i settle on a stool…and nod to the woman standing there…

“I’ll have a seven and seven… i think you have been expecting me... “

Looking in the mirror behind the bar, I see the reflection of the woman who has just walked in out of the storm, seeing that she could very well be part of the storm. Turning around, I mix her drink and put it in front of her.

I expect many things and am rarely disappointed. Could you be a bit more specific?

Grinning wickedly, I wait to see what she is going to make of that.

Looking aroung the place as lightening flashes through the windows and thunder rolls through the quiet streets...tapping my nails against the wood, her voice reaches me...

"Could you be a bit more specific? "

Meeting her eyes...never fliching...

" I am a protector... peace keeper...A.K.A *grin* a bouncer...i understand you have an opening for one..."

That depends, do you have your bikini wax handy? Any man who tries to come in here without an invitation is going to be subjected to a bikini waxing. *laugh*

Seriously, you do seem capable of the job, so if you would like it, it is yours.

*thinking to myself....*inhumane torture will be in the job description...cool

*wearing a wicked little smile*

"I will do my best...."

I think to myself that the best this woman could do would probably chill the blood of anyone who tried to stir up trouble....

Well, then, welcome to Eve's little family. Just one thing, no apple jokes. I hate apple jokes. *smile*

I walk slowly up the street, bored and alone, searching for some company. I was looking for the usual bar or club, something new, something different.

Eve's Paradise? I've never seen this place before.

I stepped up to the doorway. A huge sign hung from the left side of the entrance.

No men allowed within the confines of this establishment without previous invitation, violators will be punished with severe bikini waxing

What in the world? Was this a joke...?

I took one quick peek inside. While the enterior was extremely nice, there was definately not a man inside. I wasn't sure if that was just a coincidence or if the posted sign was serious. I wasn't going to find out. While I do try to keep trim down there, a bikini waxing wasn't going to improve my mood. I'll just keep on looking. There has to be another place with men loving women inside. My walk turned into a quick jog as an angry looking woman snarled at me as I walked past the building.

;)

Walking along the street, singing to myself as I seek out yet another party this evening. Admiring the different etablishments upon this particular street, having found none that have appealed to me since I left the nightclub. Suddenly something catches my eye.

Eve's Paradise

Knowing I've passed this way before and haven't seen this place.

Must be new. I wonder how Eve interprets paradise.

Taking a moment to fix the snug fitting black tee shirt, not desiring to look a mess. My hands smoothing along the flare of my hips self-consciously. Really hoping this is paradise as she steps through the door.

Looking up from my discussion with my newest employee, I see a new face walk into Eve's.

Hello, and welcome to Eve's. You look a little lost, can I help you with something? Or did you just come in for a drink and to see what you could find? *smiles*

Unable to help but smile as I look around the establishment. Admiring the plush decor, the inviting small details that bring it together. Turning towards the voice as it addresses me.

Hello, and welcome to Eve's. You look a little lost, can I help you with something? Or did you just come in for a drink and to see what you could find? *smiles*

umm, no. I'm not lost, I was just curious. I hope I'm not intruding but the name intrigued me greatly.

A warm smile adorning my lightly glossed lips as I extend my hand.

I'm Asia. This is a beautiful place. I would like to take you up on that drink offer, perhaps an amaretto sour?

Amaretto Sour, is it? I have only heard one person ever mention one of those before, but you are in luck, she happens to be a friend of mine. *grin*

Reaching for the necessary ingredients, I mix the drink and place it in front of her.

You are more than welcome in Eve's. It is a place for women, where we can come to escape from the attentions of the men. When we choose to. *grin*

Sitting down upon a barstool, my feet resting on the middle rung. My head lilting to the side as I listen to the kind words.

Amaretto Sour, is it? I have only heard one person ever mention one of those before, but you are in luck, she happens to be a friend of mine. *grin*

You friend has excellent taste! It's my favourite drink...quite delicious.

Curling my hand around the body of the glass, nodding my head in thanks for the drink.

You are more than welcome in Eve's. It is a place for women, where we can come to escape from the attentions of the men. When we choose to. *grin*

This sounds like a dream land. Paradise has defiitely been found!

Lifting my glass in a toast, taking a deep refreshing gulp.

And delicious drinks included, definitely paradise.

Leaning my chin on my hand, I rest my elbow on the b ar, and look at our new customer.

Every person has a story, care to share some of yours with us? At Eve's you can just be yourself, not worry about posing for the cameras, as it were. *laugh*

Fingertips stroking the glass slowly as you speak your question. My mind wondering if the truth is necessary here or another lie to conceal the mindless work I do. Making the choice, speaking nonchantly.

I am a performer, a dancer, whatever you want to call it.

Laughing softly to myself, swallowing do a sip of the amaretto sour, before continuing.

I'm from places unknown, one of those that had an unsteady family. Though I'm sure everyone has instances of inconsistency in their lives as well. I've sort of wandered here and there, and back again. Have never really settled much of anywhere.

Finishing the drink, I smile suddenly.

I guess that would make me a gypsy.
