Everyone's Reproductive Rights

This is a topic that contains a lot of "no win" situations.

Personally, I think that if a man and woman have made a baby, and are unmarried, they should both have an equal say. But as we know, that isn't fair to the woman who must either carry the baby to term, or get an abortion.

On one hand, we have men who want the women to carry the baby to term, but the woman wants an abortion. I know of several cases where the men were willing to take sole custody of the child after it was born, allowing the woman to get out of her parental responsibilities.

Yet, you never see it the other way around...well, at least there are fewer cases where the female offers to let the man out of parental responsibility. I know quite a few women who actually abuse this...and end up having multiple kids through multiple fathers, just for their own gain.

Of course a woman can never be forced to go against her will to either carry a baby to term or get an abortion. But because the female half has this power, lots of men are wronged, or considered the lesser half of the baby-making process.

I think Solomon had the right idea. Just rip that fetus out of there, chop it in two, and let each party take home half to do with as they please.

I get really twitchy about this subject, so I ask for a little bit of forebearance. I'm likely to duck out at some point if I get too twitchy. ;)

(Edited because, as it happens, I'm way too twitchy to have any sort of rational comment about this. It starts that way and goes bad. Sorry guys. :()

Ok I am ready for this... In my opinion, people often say you can give the baby to the father, you can give it up for adoption...etc. But that is not permanant that is a temporary solution. More and more often the potential child is going to want to know about its biological parentage so In 18 years there is someone wanting you to have accountability for your actions.

Your body goes through changes that alter it forever. Child bearing is not a temporary thing in anycase.

I am one of those people that believes that it is not a child till it is capable of surviving outside the womb. as long as whatever it is, is inside me. It is my choice. If a man wants to have a baby or is very anti choice. He should make all efforts to never be in a situation where the need for decision would arise. I DO feel the same way about women lest I be called a hypocrite.

I think all and all the best solution is a more reliable and widely useable form of birth control or abstinance.

While I am pro-choice, I do think that there does come a point, often called "the point of viability", where abortion becomes murder. Most doctors place that at 32 weeks I believe....someone correct me please if it's later or earlier.

AMEN!!! Personally, I think that women who decide that they want to remain child-free should be able to have their tubes tied. The same goes for men. Men should be able to get vasectomies if they decide they don't want children.

And this is a bad thing? I suppose it is if you never want to be held accountable for your actions. As a person who was once a fetus, then a child and now an adult, I would much rather have had someone abandond me than have me terminated. I may want to hold them accountable later, but at most all I could do is confront them - they in turn have the option of ignoring me and getting a restraining order. If the choice is between terminating a life and having some possible emotional turmoil later, then I vote for the inconvenience of emotional turmoil later. Even with the opening of adoption records, it is still very hard to find natural parents, and there are legislative solutions that allows the fetus/child to live and the biological parent to remain anonymous.

Now I recognize that all of the above assumes that the fetus is a life/etc. and ignores all of the other ramifications - but sometimes you have to treat each issue by itself - otherwise the issues are too complex.

They aren't able? Who is preventing them?

.

At 22 after 2 pregnancies One miscarriage and a medical abortion I asked for a tubal ligation and was told by three different doctors. that despite my health history I had to wait till I was 30 or had three children. Most Drs are afraid of being sued later if someone changes their mind and wants kids.

Surely there are more than three doctors local to you. Wouldn't Family Planning be able to give you the names of doctors willing and able to give you what you need?

I should have clarified....I meant to say that people without children should be able to get those procedures done. Last I knew, vasectomies and tubal ligations were withheld until at least 2 (or 3?) children.

I had one when I was 23.

They never said a word to me about age.

I was told by all three docs that it is standard procedure and that I would not find anyone diff. even PP follows those rules pretty much.

You learn something new each day. This I did not know. I guess I can't get a vasectomy then? I am almost 50, but I have only had one child and do not plan on any more.

How about just lying to them? Going to another country? I know these are imperfect suggestions, but hey, I do not want any more kids - I want to retire.

I understand that this is elective surgery, but damn, if a person can elect to get fake tits, have their gender changed, etc., then they should be able to elect whether they are going to have more children or not.

The key is 30 or 3 kids...you are over thirty go for it!
