Yes, it's the annoying little detail which has to be resolved/explained, isn't it? Before even making a start on your questions, you have to explain exactly WHY they "didn't want him included". After all, this may have a significant bearing on the plot development in the rest of your story, right?

I personally find that a lot of this kind of unresolved stuff finds its way on to what's published on Lit. and to me it's hugely off-putting. It's as if writers are saying "take it or leave it but that's just the way it is" - i.e. they can't be bothered doing the work which would allow you, the reader, to believe in their plot.
