I know this snow storm has hit points south pretty hard. Here in SE PA it has yet to start, but school has been canceled and the latest forecast calls for snow, then snow/rain, then more snow, and total accumulation of 6-12".

Check in when you can.

Umm, I'd say 4 inches now in Central Virginia. It started at 5 p.m. (it's 9:45 now). Our winter storm warning is timed to 9:00 tomorrow night.

Earlier I was cursing not having left for Florida today rather than next Wednesday and then it dawned on me that I'd be driving into the storm. Hope it quiets down into next week.

Over 7" in SW VA, predicted to get a few more inches tonight into tomorrow. Classes are cancelled tomorrow so hoping to get in some studying and maybe some writing.

Hmmmm - would those classes be of the orange and maroon variety?? around 4" here in RVA.

There's a bubble over Lubbock. Snow to the north and south, but all we get is a bare covering of the dead grass. I'm actually a tad jealous. Then again, since I can't get out even when it's clear without falling, it probably wouldn't matter a hill of coffee beans to me. At least until the grocery delivery was late with this week's supply.

Worried

:(

I'm right on the cusp of the tons of snow v sleet/rain mix line. It's seemingly like that could be especially awful because they'll be 6-10 inches of snow topped with a nice thick icy crust. No idea how I'll dig out if we need to.

Power company is drowning the airwaves with warnings about impending outages, what to do, and all the steps they're taking to minimize the damage.

For the first time in a long time, I'm really rather worried. We had plans to drive south to see family but the weather warnings had us rethinking and when Amtrack shut down the trains, we took it as a sign to stay put.

Adding to my troubles is I'm in mid-move so a lot of my rarely used winter gear is at my storage unit and I didn't think to go by there because up until late last night I was out of town bound.

The fam down south says they're completely locked in by the ice and it's projected to crush us overnight. Everything's to be closed so at least nowhere we gotta be.

My one real  moment came this afternoon when tarping the windshield of our van. My @#$% neighbor is having an exchange with another about the snow.

The decent young guy basically says he's going to try and take it all in stride as best he can and how it's still nice to get snow every once in awhile (we don't often)

Ahole neighbor decides to hammer question him over how he'll take not having power in stride then goes on to lay out his whole generator and prep situation.

Seriously, if I had had one more hour to get out to the store I would have bought a 5 pound bag of sugar and, erm, brought him and his gasoline powered generator down a peg.

Life sucks enough. Why must people go out of their way to make it worse for others?

How does this improve your own situation?

(sorry if I rambled. Feels like I may not be AH'ing for a while so guess I'm going for a few days worth of posting as a hedge)

I remember growing up in Chicago and the blizzards and sleet and slush. There were very few "snow days" while I was going to school.

Sure, during the blizzard of '67 we had a couple off. But once they had the streets clear we were back in school.

Of course there were 23 inches of snow that fell in a 24 hour period, but hey, what's an inch today compared to 23 in '67? Close the schools!

Grew up in NJ, not a lot of snow days there either and saw my fair share of Nor'Easters and various such storms. I don't blame them for closing schools down here, they simply don't have the number of plows and most of the people here aren't used to dealing with lots of snow. Better for them to just shut things down.

So far 13" of snow in about 10 hours, snow still coming down.

I guess it just started here; I looked outside and so far there's probably not even half an inch. But I think the last forecast I read had later accumulation, then a switch to rain/snow, and then back to snow and more accumulation.

Sun shining here. :D
Although it is only 30f. :(
But it is supposed to get up in the 60's. :D

My thoughts to all of you dealing with weather you are unprepared for. I grew up in the NE, but I've traveled quite a bit; I know how hard it is for communities that don't get winter weather regularly.

Not having power sucks! Stay warm and be safe.

Currently around 17" and still coming down. The fortunate thing is that it hasn't killed the power around here, but this year after all the storms over the past couple of years, the power company has been very aggressive with tree removal near their lines.

Looks like about 8 inches so far in NY. I heard some freezing rain about an hour ago.

Going to shovel in a few. Fucking snow.

I'm pretty sure my pajamas are staying on all day, so haven't been out with a ruler, but there is a whole mess of snow out there.

(Unlike StrangeLife, I don't find 10" impressive.) ;)

Looks to be about 10 inches in Central Virginia. I'm about to go out and shovel it. No sun, but it isn't snowing still, and it's 40 degrees, so that will help. No plans on going anywhere anytime soon.
