Tonight we bought the Secretary DVD. This movie, a personal favorite from last year, is a light-hearded, comedic tale of a female sub and her male Dominant - discovering their connection.

The movie was tame - extraordinarily so. It was a sweet tale with some sexuality - but nothing over the top or graphic.

So, in one way, this film was a huge success on helping others understand a bit about BDSM and see that it can be successful in a normal everyday relationship.

But, on the back cover of the DVD it says

Rated R for strong sexuality, brief nudity, depiction of behavioral disorders and language.

I've never seen some of that in a ratings system. *shakes head*

The rating board people are fucked up.

I remember a story that one of the South Park creators told when they made their South Park movie.

They had this one part in the movie that apperntly was so bad the ratings board would not let it by with an R rating. They made them change the scene over and over again each time rejecting their changes as not enough.

Finaly they said fuck them and made the scene much more disgusting, sick and nasty then the original version and finaly the rating board said it was ok.

They also named their movie Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

The ratings board people are fucked up and totally clueless.

Ya ever seen Jack Valenti interviewed?

'Splains a lot.

Of course, they could have been refering to the girl's institutionalisation for cutting.

Twas a groovy movie. I've got a meager thread somewhere back around release time.

And you're right, it was pretty tame.

I caught Starship Troopers (guilty pleasure) on regular TV a couple months back, and they leave almost all the violence in: people decapitated, torn in half, shot in the head...but the cut out the shower scene. We're such weirdos.

Oh, and have you seen Irreversible? Now *that's* a fucked up movie.

I think we're going to go see it soon.

I have wanted to for some time. We went to see Adaptation again the other night. I love that movie.

Have you seen City of God?

It's the most impressive film I've seen in the 2000s. (I noticed you mentioned it on the linked thread).

Not yet...I've had it written down from when you'd recommended it. Actually hoping to catch it this weekend.

I picked up this true crime book the other day that was sitting around our lunch room at work...

Some guy who murdered his wife who was divorcing him... the back of the book said the judge in the case had described him as the "most vile sexual deiviant he had ever encountered"

So being curious I flipped around till I found a description of what the "deviviant" behaviors were....

all everyday topics of conversation around here....

Golden showers
F/M/F threesomes
Light Bondage

I thought it was interesting other than murder, the behavior didn't seem too far off the mark to me...

There's a bunch of shit out there right now. But, there are a few indie films I'd like to see.

Open Hearts - Danish Dogma 95 film
All the Real Girls - David Gordon Green's second film
Irreversible
Spider - Cronenberg's new film with Ralph Fiennes

I'm also looking forward to Morvern Callar and In America.

All the Real Girls & Spider were previews before Irreversible. Spider looked very good and seriously creepy. I'd read about Open Hearts - sounded promising.

And there's an article in IFC magazine about "Spun" - a movie about speed. The drug abuse movies usually cross the "I need a shower" line pretty fast, but the cast is excellent...probably give it a go.

American media celebrates violence and makes sex evil...because American culture celebrates violence and makes sex evil.

It's not kinkiness that is frowned upon in the USA...it's sex.

Now killing...you guys have that on, 24X7.

You are far more likely to see people fucking on the CBC than shootings with blood like on Fox.

Deviants.

Deviants, huh? What high praise. But I rather see myself as a pervert. ~wink~

When I come to Lit, I do seek out your posts, Lance. I admit it.

I don't know... I don't find it all that offensive that they gave it an R... the movie made my pants go all sorts of crazy. I'm actually surprised that it didn't get more because of it's depictions of sexual violence towards women... that's supposed to be one of the cardinal sins... that was one of the reasons the whole comics code was introduced.

Also - as for the behavoiral disorders - don't you think that might refer to how she was a cutter? That's what comes to my mind.
