Evaporating Votes...

I just checked my stories out, and Montana Summer Ch 7for one has lost at least 200 votes and has pummeted from 4.92 to 4.88...and I see some of my other stories have taken some hits...anyone else?

It really makes me wonder at the integrity of the software on this site...

They occasionally do "vote sweeps," and if anyone has voted more than once, whether it was a 5 both times, or a 1, the extra vote will vanish. Sometimes it's to your advantage, sometimes it isn't.

Losing 200 votes seems odd. That's a hell of a lot of votes to be swept.

This came up in another thread recently. If you have a yahoo group where you share the link to the story, it's been known to cause problems with the way the votes are recognized. Something like the system used for sweeps sees the votes as being done by the same person.

If that's not your situation, or even if it is, you might think about pming Laurel.

I know someone said it shouldn't make a difference since the actual voting addy was unique.

I'd like to know cause I'm starting up a blog to announce new stories, and I don't want to lose half my votes cause someone follows a link.

my maximum votes on any of my stories is 22. All other stories have less votes than that.

Oh, I'm not here to gloat at other people's misfortune...really...I'm not...

But maybe you should re-count? Judging from your almost solid line of H's, that's at the very least 80 votes. Are they really that evenly distributed?

Mine are mostly in Romance, which is a bit more voting generous than some other categories.

My Susan's College Girl Lust Ch. 2 went from 73 votes and 4.86, tied for 2nd in lez sex toplist and looking like a shoe-in for November readers choice in the cat, to 33 votes and a 4.82 and like 25th place. Ouch! I hate to whine, and I know she has bigger things to focus on, but I wrote Laurel pointing out that losing well over 50 percent of my votes seemed excessive, and that given the story's title and content the original numbers did not seem out of line.

I received this back (and discovered Laurel really does exist):
"Thanks for writing, and I hope you are well. We have a script that tags fraudulent votes (fraud votes being anytime someone tries to vote for a story more than once by trying to get around our system). If you lost votes and your score went down, it's possible that overzealous fans were attempting to "help" you by submitting multiple up-votes on your stories. Thanks again, and take care!"

Well, duh. I dunno, it still seems hard to believe there were that many overvotes. While others have trolls who send "1-bombs" I appear to have idiot sprites who sit and press "5, 5, 5" repeatedly.

I knew something bad would happen when readers choice sweeps week arrived, just knew it. Sure, Lucy - you hold the football and I'll kick it.
