As EURO2016 is almost there, it deserves a thread. Shall you watch matches and support any team?
As in World Cup 2014, I think European teams showed their losses rather than gains. Let's discuss!
Let me check if there are other football fans like me around (soccer, yes)

England

The English are looking for their first ever European crown and have a good chance of finishing first in Group B against the likes of Wales, Slovakia and Russia. England arrives in France with momentum on its side after winning all of its qualifying matches. However, historically, the English have struggled to rise to the challenge in big events and are coming off a horrific 2014 World Cup performance where they failed to win a single match. Wayne Rooney is the last player from the "Golden Generation" but 18-year-old Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford may lead the new generation that England so desperately needs.

Chance of winning: 13%

*The English suffer in football like the Maple Leafs do in hockey. Being the center of hockeydom does not mean you can coast on the past. Leafs have thrown away many a game from being overly prideful and thinking the game is in the bag. England needs to step up and fight for every goal and win.*

i will definitely watch if i remember to turn my tv on and it happens to be on tv at the time.

and i won't care who wins as long as it's interesting. well, not russia 'cause those guys are dicks, but beyond that i'm good.

It's pretty wide open. Even England has their best looking squad in a number of years.

I'm going to go out on a limb as say Belgium. They have the talent and it's time for a new winner. Plus if Leicester can win the Premier League title, anyone can win the Euro.

2nd day

What have we seen by now?
An extra-cheap-looking opening ceremony and as much as two interesting matches.
I am surprised by Romania and Albania in a positive way.
Also, Leonid Slutsky is an experienced coach, and a respectable person, so looking forward to tonight anyway..

Being in the US, I can't always get the games ; but I would watch it if I had easier access to them on TV. My favorite teams are always Germany, The Netherlands, and England. England always seems to find a way to choke while firmly believing they should've won every one of these tournaments as well as the World Cup....Germany and The Netherlands, over the last 6 years, have consistently been the strongest European teams (yeah, Spain won it all in 2010....but what did they do in 2014?).

4est_4est_Trump-class improvised weaponry, from the Twitter:

As rioting English fans were being cordoned off by riot police, one English fan pulled down his pants, shat into his hands and flung his dung at police.

"There will always be an England........"

That's what I call an offensive weapon .

detention of 50 Russia soccer fans representatives

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-soccer-euro-russia-fans-idUSKCN0Z00SJ

French riot police had stopped a bus carrying fans in Cannes who were on their way to Lille. People on the bus are representatives of Russian soccer fan organizations, some arrived to France just recently. People are trapped in the bus from the early morning, several hours at 40C, without aircon, water, and ability to use a WC. Four people left the bus, have been asked for a document check at the police office, and were told they would be deported. A man over 60 y.o. felt bad, emergency have been called but haven't arrived, now feels better. Russian consul has just arrived.

Update as of June 16-17: the mentioned people brought to Marseilles, three of them later sentenced to 1-3 years imprisonment, ~20 deported.

regarding football

..just dropped in to say I love Iceland!
No, I felt right about them as of real heroes of EURO2016, like Costa Rica an alike teams were the heroes of BRAZIL2014.

Sól slær silfri á voga, Sjáið jökulinn loga.
Allt er bjart fyrir okkur tveim, því ég er kominn heim.

Sun shimmers in the water, see the glacier glow, all is bright for the two of us, because I am back home.
