Oh you heard me right, except now they're furiously back-peddling and denying it was so.

My favourite quote:
He said the proposed census questions were "the work of a group of MEPs who must spend their private time peering over their neighbours' fences".

See the full article at BBC News

Well, as far as they're concerned I am a Vestal Virgin until the day I marry. I really don't see how it is their business.

Is it my imagination, or were they just thinking of targeting women?

I know you can get into shit for giving false information in a census, but if I ever got asked something like that...

they're just targeting women. some bollocks about fertility...

Another amusing quote...

Mr Clark added: "This report is both crackers and deeply offensive.

"When will politicians realise that George Orwell's 1984 was a warning, not an instruction manual?"

HAH! My response to that one would be "Infertile since 13, BEFORE I was sexually active."

Clarke - UK Independence Party, naturally, he speaks the utter truth. There will be two EU Census's one with a set of questions for women about the general level of their promiscuity and 'consensual unions'; and one for men about football.

Consensual union is a polite way of asking - are you married or do you cohabit... and we don't actually care if you cohabit with someone of the same sex or not.

Perhaps they should have asked the following:

Are you married or unmarried? (tick box)
Are you a lesbian or homosexual? (tick box)
Do you share a home with a lesbian or homosexual? (tick box)
Do you attend church or do you engage in a same sex relationship? (tick box)
Do you have spots on your genitals? (send pictures)

Today is the BBC's great Labour bashing day - 25million personal data records 'lost'. The BBC is desperately trying to provide political balance by giving web space to the UKIP tosser, Clarke.

This census thing is obviously just another desperate attempt by some married wimp to find out if I fucked his wife. I will state, one more time, "I did not have sex with that woman!" [TRUST ME!]

Storm in a tea cup

The UKIP delights in portraying the EEC in a bad light.

What was intended was a way of asking whether a couple of people were not married but were acting as if they were. That is what used to be called "common-law marriage" - a long term relationship. The definition would have to cover civil partnerships as well but not all EU countries recognise them.

For some European countries, the question would have to consider the sensibilities of the Catholic Church, other Christian denominations and other faiths.

It is almost impossible to frame such a question in all the official languages without upsetting somebody or giving a false impression of what is required.

For example: I'm married in UK law but not by any church. That marriage would be recognised in every EU state but is not recognised by the Church authorities. I'm not a member of any other faith, so my marriage isn't recognised by them either.

However, the local CofE Vicar, the Baptist Minister, the local Priest, the Rabbi and the Imam all treat my wife and I as if we were married - as a courtesy.

How would I be recorded in a census of Church of England members?

Probably as "living in sin" - aren't we all?

Well why are they just asking women then? If they truly want to know just about those co-habiting (and what's wrong with co-habiting as a term?) then why not ask men as well? That's part of the reason I find it offensive...

Og, even I know it's the EU and not the EEC now.

Anyway it's great, can I volunteer to give details of my rencontres with himalayan sherpas, Roumanian romanies and the entire Ontario male brass band?

It would make my Facebook entry more exciting.

Even the tuba players?

I mean, I completely understand wanting to be with musicians with those incredible lips, but I do have my standards.

I was in marching band in highschool, and let me tell you, all of our tuba players were H O T. Some sort of weird karmic quirk, I'm sure, but a good one.

And that's a private joke. I'm a musician - brass player first. One of our best friends is a tuba player and he was groomsman at our wedding.

(And yeah - he's hot, too.)

I just had to tease about elf's comment about doing the entire brass band.

:D

Next thing they'll ask is how much you weigh.

Then they can come to your house and put you on a diet to 'fit the norm'. ;)
