Etiquette for PMs

I'm wondering what the consensus is for etiquette for Private Messages. When is it appropriate to PM? When is it appropriate to respond to a PM? What do you think. Poll attached for convenience, but please tell me what you think also.

I think

you can PM anyone, anytime you like. The recipient can answer, ignore, or if necessary block you.

Of course it would be nice if people acted with a certain sense of civility and decorum until boudaries are understood.

But this is an unpoliced site when it comes to PM's, and a porn site at that, so don't be too shocked at some of the messages tyou received.

My experience by and large, is most people are pretty respectful.

All I know is that I am a little offended that I have not gotten more offensive pm's.

maybe my perception of offensive is too narrow

I think that you can pm someone any time you want to initiate communication behind the scenes. It is rude to continue to pm someone after they have repeatedly not responded or in any way invited you to continue the communication.

It's called Private Message. This is a public forum. So whenever you want to say something that doesn't concern the public, that's an option. But only an option. You can have one-man-audience messages in public too. (Happens all the time.) It's pretty much like speaking out loud to one person in a crowd, instead of whispering.

I usually PM when I am trying to be somewhat private.....


That sometimes involves flirting....but not often.....okay, maybe more often than not....
