I started a post-apocalyptic short story well over a year ago, never could figure out where it was headed. For no apparent reason, an ending has suggested itself. The thing is, it starts off by describing a nasty plague leading to societal collapse.

Given what’s happening IRL, would it be in bad taste to publish it now?

Be the first on the bandwagon, sell the movie rights. If you don't, some one else will :).

I thought about resubmitting mine here but decided against it. I do have it up at Wattpad right now though.

And I say post it. I don't think it's bad taste, I think people would be more interested in reading it now.

I'm in the same boat; my "One Night in Houstonlantavegas" story is a pandemic story but didn't make it to completion for Chloe's event. Even before COV19, I'd planned to finish it; it's on the sidelines but if I finish others in the queue, I think I'll still do so. I hope you will, too, TP, and look forward to reading it!

I don't think there's ever a bad time to publish a good story. But, at this stage, only you know if it is a good story. :)

I think that's 100% a personal decision.

No.

Put a disclaimer at the beginning letting people know what it's about. They can decide for themselves whether they are up for it, given the circumstances.

I'm into gallows humor. Wallowing can be a legitimate form of coping.

I just wanted to join the "go for it" bandwagon before that train left the station.

Or something.

I recently submitted an incest story about a mom/son escaping the virus and fleeing a vacation. The reactions were positive and people thought it was an entertaining take on modern events. I also did a a story on that false missile alarm in Hawaii.

Basically, if it's escapism, go for it.

Grab it, kick it's butt and run with the idea, TP.

But the notice Simon mentioned is a kind idea, too.

Don't think so. I was half a year early with my "Beacon of Humanity" but I would still have published it if the corona-virus had hit at the time.

Society is going to hell in a handbasket, so we might as well have something good to read along the way. :D

Yeah, what the hell. I wrote mine during the big hullabaloo back when everyone thought that the Yellowstone super volcano was going to blow.

So, finish it and submitted it.
