Just an idea that I had. Not sure whether it has any potential.

But the idea is this. A couple with access to a time machine get married and live a long, happy life together. But once his wife dies, the man can't stand it, and he goes back in time (Let's go with Dragonball Z time-travel rules, so every time he goes back, it starts a new timeline, preserving the original one) to find his wife back when she was young, but still definitely over 18, so he can continue to be with her. But after a while, he dies, and his widow finds herself in the same dilemma, so she, too, goes back in time to find a younger version of her husband to have and to hold, and so on, which each spouse going back to be with their spouse whenever one passes away.

Not really sure what to do with it, but I like the idea. Any thoughts?

To make this kind of story interesting there would have to be some sort of degradation in the relationship or something undesirable happen as a result of going back. Without that, it's too much like a free lunch - which as we all know can't exist.

Maybe the couple has kids that are the man's pride and joy, but when the he goes back his wife in the new timeline cannot conceive. This makes the man feel like he killed his own children and he does not want go back in time at the end of his second life, but when the man in timeline two dies the wife from the new timeline does go back. Of course something goes wrong for her in the next timeline.

Enough iterations of these timelines and maybe there is one perfect couple, stuck in limbo, each on separate timelines, unable to enjoy anything without each other. Each regrets ever using the time machine and knows of all the past lives and timelines.

Eventually there needs a very clever, but risky, way to get the two perfect lovers back together in a single timeline for one final perfect life. Maybe they have to use the machine to visit other timelines and murder the copies of themselves.

In the end the the perfect couple come to the same timeline, live that one perfect life and when they get old they destroy the time machine; which in turn causes them to both to die. They knew that the end of the machine would be the end for them, and they go peacefully in each others arms, as in love as the day they met.

So yeah, there's some thoughts...

Pretty darn good!

Brilliant! Nice story-smithing there, Fantasyxy!

There was a romance novel a few years ago called "The Time Traveler's Wife" about a woman whose husband would ping-pong back and forth in time, completely against his will and out of his control. I didn't read it, but I understand it was mostly about lovey-dovey stuff. But I'll bet it would make a good fuck-and-suck story too.

I saw that movie and it was actually pretty good. At one point he traveled back in time to purposely get his wife pregnant.

Don't forget "The Man Who Folded Himself"

*SPOILERS*

There's a rather heartbreaking scene where the couple breaks up and the main character takes years to try and fix the relationship and winds up chasing her backwards through time, unintentionally denying his younger self more time with his lover (time travel in the book has no potential for paradoxes, it just creates branching paths that you can no longer access)

Of course, then it turns out that his lover is his daughter...and sister...mother, aunt, brother, father, uncle, lesbian lover, male lover...etc.

Interesting read, is what I'm saying
