Don't even know where to put this. I just rewatched ET (phone home) and was struck by the overt mind control ET has over/through the kid. When ET is drinking, he controls the kids in the classroom to recreate the kiss on the the TV: the girl strikes the pose, the fat kid lays at her feet so Micheal can get the right angle to kiss her.

Can you imagine if ET had been watching WWF?

Anyways, I've always thought alien mind control was silly and impractical, but seems workable into a story. only this time he links with college kid and ends up watching...well, porn of course.

Also, did you notice at the start of the film how the fine single mom is hanging out with the boys while wearing her bath robe? nothing creepy there, i'm sure.

I barely remember the film -- it's been so long! Was ET's MC session deliberate or a byproduct of drinking?

I dislike deliberate MC because the rules are too loose; anything can happen without rational limits. I'll take conscious MC if the controller pays a price for exercising power.

But inadvertent MC is something else. An alien or human is unexpectedly and without volition triggered to emit MC waves without knowing they're doing so. The accidental controller eats a CostCo hot dog (the trigger) in the food court, fantasizes about some lithe creature strolling past, and suddenly the store erupts in orgy-rama. Or maybe the sales associates just screw in the break room.
