Erotica Conventions

I'm pretty heavily into the science fiction scene. I've written and sold about a half dozen stories and have gone to as many conventions. I'm wondering if there are comparable erotica conventions held around the country, and where such a listing of said conventions might be found?

If these cons aren't a usual thing, I'd be pretty surprised.

While I have nothing against an Erotica Convention, I'm guessing I'd hate any real one I went to. Such places are, sadly, not bastions of feminism or even mildly comfortable environments for those of the fairer gender.
That's what I've heard at least.

The whole convention scene just gives me the willies... Every time I hear someone talking about going down to the "Home and Garden Show" or the "RV Show" or the "Comic Book Show" (do the stamp the word "geek" on your forehead at the door?) I just wanna ask, "Don't you have anything better to do with your time - like, I dunno, sleep?"...

Oh, and erotica conventions, while I'm sure they are a necessary evil for those in the retail end of the business, I just can't imagine anything more unerotic... Can you imagine having to sit there and watch an 8 minute videotape on the latest technology in "Life-like, Vibrating Vaginas"???

I would not want to go to one like that either. I'd rather attend one where both sexes are represented fairly and equally--that's what erotica is all about anyway, right? Consensual adults doing what they want in the privacy of their bedroom?

I've been to an adult convention, and Never's hit it on the head. Manu and I snuck into one when we were in Vegas last year. It was so...porn. Booths, full of luridly boxed videos & magazines, manned by half-naked girls, surrounded by scores of horny guys with cameras. Didn't exactly get me wet. It was funny as hell, though.

So it sounds like the answer to my question is: There aren't any--other than XXX porn. That's distressing, and too bad. It would be nice to have a true erotica con without the usual lurid paraphenalia.

I'm not sure what you're looking for, Budokan. That "lurid paraphenalia" is how people in the porn business make money. And the whole point behind holding these big-ass nasty conventions is to make money. No one is going to take the time, or spend the money, to organize something like that if they can't make a buck off of it. Somehow I don't think a series of booths where people sit and talk about "making love in thunderstorms" or share their "romantic fantasies" is gonna get the job done.

I guess you're right. I was actually looking for something more open minded and directed more towards the fiction of erotica rather than the usual aspects, without the purple prose of "making love in thunderstorms." Unfortunately, from what I'm hearing there's nothing but porn cons. Too bad, because it continues to foster the illusion that erotica is porn--and nothing could be further from the truth.

Yeah, it'd be cool to attend a porn/erotica convention that was focused on men AND women. Unfortunately, the porn industry views its customer base as largely, if not entirely, male. I tried to find some good nude guy pics to include in our goodies section, and it's damn hard to find male photos that aren't taken for use in gay magazines. Women just don't spend enough on porn. Stupid that it has to be that way, but that's how it is. It's all about the money, honey.

I do believe that Never has hit it directly on the head. If there were to be a con as envisioned by Budokan, it would be swarmed over by a horde of horny guys hoping to score with the models staffing the booths. And there would be models staffing the booths, because that is what attracts the guys. I sincerely doubt that very many women, even the lovely ladies represented on our humble site (and I suspect they are more open about erotica than most in our society) would be willing to subject themselves to the type of ogling, grabbing, and come ons they would likely find at such a convention.

Starry, starry night is Vincent Van Gogh's best work. It captures the freedom of line work that added to the emotions of his work instead of fading back to a static representation of the 'work'. The picture makes your eyes flow from one corner to another and back, the whole scene is a living, vibrant night that doesn't so much burst from the canvas but, instead, draws the viewer deeper and deeper into the sutle and sublime harmony of the night.

There is an erotica expo on in Auckland in a couple of weeks. I was considering going. Maybe I should just give it a miss. the stalls they are advertising on the website seem to be a mix of porn shops, "massage" venues, x-mags but I thought some of them would be interesting.. custom leather? whips and chains? To be honest with you all, I wouldn't be going as a buyer.. I would be more of a pervert than anything.. I don't think that the whips and chains are likely to feature in my sex life (and the way I am feeling right now.. I thank the Deity of my choice for that)

I was checking out an erotica expo here in Copenhagen a while back.
LMAO, that was a....ahem different experience. Not something that could get my rocks off.
And the amount of fake boobies there. Well I think I could build about 250 new motherboards with the amount of silicone on display there.
I walked around there, giggling all by myself. Looking at one booth after the other with XXX movies, Latex clothing. Whips, and other more undefinable gadgets.
Og course there was the traditional strip show. But hey. Not that interesting.

Oh and the most insane thing I saw. Was the girl with Denmarks biggest breasts. A G-cup. LOL
Now that was a serious pair of fake balloons LOL.

Would I go to another. Well this one was quite hillarious so maybe I will.

First of all: I am the only pervert in Montana. Therefore, there will never be an erotica\porn convention in my area of the world for me to go to.. But I just might be interested to.

Why?

It's true, female consumers don't buy a lot of erotica. But do you think if somehow swarms of well-dressed, normal women wandered around sexcons looking bored and irritated that the wares might change a little? Or if not the wares, the attitudes?
